If not being able to forcibly take money from people who have chosen not to be in a union is the death of unions then unions absolutely deserve to die. If unions have value then it seems that the people they serve would join them and pay dues. This crazy idea that the way for unions to survive is to allow them to take money from people who don't want to be in them and don't want to give them money is ridiculous.
If you have to ask you wouldn’t understand.
Forcing dues is wrong imo. But I’m also ok with them being removed from union membership as well. No problem for it being pay to play.
Forcibly my ***. You chose to take a job under a union contract.
It isn't always, but you worked there for several years without a union. I've talked to several other people and there was definitely a give and take when the union came in, right? It wasn't a horrible place to work without a union, was it? You got raises didn't you?
With the union, when we try to ask management why this or that (pay, time off, benefits) they throw their hands in the air and tell us that's between us and our union. They don't have to take responsibility for it to us. In non-union places I've worked they have to take responsibility for those things, they can't pass the buck to the union.
I'm still salty about this garbage contract our union very foprcefully jammed down our thoats. Not sure if you can tell, lol.
Bull ****. Sometimes you need a job and you take what you can get... warts and all. Everybody cannot pick and chose what job they get based on political leanings.
You're not forced to work under a union contract. Most of the jobs in this country are non union!
As I've mentioned, I belong to my union. I pay dues. I participate.Forcibly my ***. You chose to take a job under a union contract. By law Unions have to negotiate a contract for all the employees. They can't represent just their members in contract negotiations. They have to represent everyone so everyone should have to pony up for it.
If you don't like your union you can:
Stand for election/vote for different leadership within your union and bring about the changes you would like to see.
Get a non union job that will probably pay you less because there is no collective bargaining.
Or (now) freeload/undermine the union that works on your behalf.
Great and that should work across the board.
I don’t agree with forced dues.

I've understood your point this whole time.Putting a lot of words in my mouth Bulletproof.
I personally don't care if anyone does or doesn't want to be in a union. Simply stating that currently Unions are not allowed to do what you're asking.
I've understood your point this whole time.
I’m curious, are union members in the US the last workers a company can fire?
Awesome! In that case, give up:
- Your weekends
- The 40-hr work week
Over the years I’ve met many freeloaders, like you. People who don’t want to slap some skin into the fight. But I’ve never met anyone who wouldn’t take the benefits fought so hard by the union.
- Break time
- Health insurance
- Medical leave
- Paid holidays
- Pay raises
- Tenure
One thing that we haven’t even touched on, unions as a lobbying force in politics. If unions have less money now (which is obviously going to happen) how are they supposed to offset the corporate dollars that are flooding our political system?
