Nazi Salute in high school

The Thriller

Not a good few weeks for public schools. From the elementary school in Idaho and its racial stereotypes and now this:

Right wing nationalism just rampant under Trump.

Dude, stop spreading the myth of racist white people. White people, specially Trump supporters, are the LEAST racist. All these millions of examples of horrendous racism that you think you've seen are just in your head (LEFTIST mainstream media brain manipulation tech).

I'm falling for the "never not been rampant" trope. Just emboldened now... "I'll pay your legal fees" running through my head.

Not that it matters but title is incorrect... it is certainly not ALL class, I see at least 5 kids who do not salute

Yeah, the explanation offered by a parent, and described at the link I left, is interesting. According to that account, an adult told the boys to make what was described as "the high sign", and the boys responded in varying ways....

"Jen Terkington, wife of a Baraboo High School Football coach, described to NBC15 how the picture-taking incident unfolded.

"A man - a parent - came forward and started shouting instructions for the boys do this, do that and at one point he told the boys make the 'high sign.' The boys weren’t quite sure what to do. Some were waving high, some were raising their hand high, some were looking around not sure what to do. And that was it," Terkington said."

They're clearly doing the Nazi salute. One of the boys in the front row is making another well know white nationalist gesture with his right hand. In the original tweet, it said "we even got the black kid to do it!".

Looks like 5 or so boys weren't comfortable doing the salute. Out of like 50. Sounds about right.

****ing idiots. Double for the ones uncomfortable with this and going along anyways.

And at no point did an adult come in and basically say “****s wrong with y’all?” And ax this?

Morons.

Re: the bolded- assume you're referring to the kid making a circle with his fingers below his waist- really hope you're joking.

We used to know it as the OK sign, but a dedicated troll from the 4chanish crowd has turned it into a WP for "white power", presumably because that is so funny.
It's neither. It's a game kids play- we even did it 35 years ago - where you make that circle- has to be on your body and below your waist and if your buddy looks at it, you get to punch him. The giveaway for that particular kid is that it is below his waist and touching his body.

Those you refer to are just making the sign period. with your hands holding it out and up/wherever.

Lmao.

Within the context of nearly everyone else in the photo giving the Nazi salute, I don't see any reason to extend the benefit of the doubt to someone making what is by now a well known alt right hate symbol.

He's a kid trying to be funny. If he were doing what some of you and the media were accusing him of he would have held it up and out. No reason to have it below his waist and touching his pants.

But i get it- we all need to have something to be outraged about even if we have to make it up in order to get there.

Wonder what it would be like to assume the worst in people- even kids- all the time and then let myself get offended by my dumbass assumptions. Pathetic way to live life, tbh.

So what have the closet white supremacists land on? Is it just a joke? Or is it not the Nazi salute at all?

I know better, but I'm gonna bite anyway... where are you going with this?

Are we:
  1. Letting it go because we assume
    1. They don't know what it means to most
    2. They do know what it means to most
  2. Not letting it go, and
    1. Letting them FEEL the public outcry because
      1. They don't know what it means to most
      2. They do know what it means to most
    2. Letting them SEE, but not FEEL the public outcry because
      1. They don't know what it means to most
      2. They do know what it means to most
      3. Kids... lol

I feel like we should be letting them feel some public outcry, so as they transition to adulthood they know this isn't acceptable, and to pretty fair level, and just as importantly why.

But what do YOU think we should do here? What are YOU advocating for?

YOU, seattlejazzfan, see a post with a bunch of white kids in Wisconsin flashing what you know to be what is known(to a hilariously overwhelming degree) as the "white hatiest" of hand signals. What exactly do you do?

Sorry you typed that long post based on a misunderstanding. I was just talking about the one kid in front who was trying to be funny with a sign kids play to find a good excuse to punch each other.
