Burks at #12

Im sooo happy with the burks pick. He was the guy i was hoping for at 12 more than any other player. He reminds me a ton of dwayne wade. His shot looks perfect and i think will improve. He will get to the free throw line alot. I dont think the jazz have ever had a 2 guard than can take his man off the dribble and create his own shot. Horny, russel, giri, bell etc etc. To me he is nothing like brewer. Good draft Jazz, this team should be able to score alot i just hope they will be able to play D.

Burks had a 29.2 PER this season, that is ridiculously efficient for a sophomore. Derrick Williams is the only sophomore who beat him there at 32.5

Adios CJ! Bienvenidos Burks!
Ummm, not exactly. Who plays SF for the Jazz next season. I'll give you two chances and the first is NOT AK. Greg has gone out of his way to *&^%$ slap AK at every turn, saying we need guys who are durable, questioning Andrei when he misses for seemingly minor injuries. Unless there's a trade, Jazz will pick up Miles' option and he'll be the starting SF next season.

Burks was the last player left in the draft with All-Star potential. I was watching the NBA TV NBA Draft Preview and one of the analyst picked him to be ROY and called him "The next Dwayne Wade". This guy has potential to be much more than a role player. It's the Jazz finally taking a chance, which I thought everyone here would love.

Can't believe I agreeing with you - but yeah I see a lot of Wade in him. The handle, slashing, getting to the foul line.

OK not there yet with 3pt, but I'd take a SG who can drive to the hole & get an And+1 over a 3pt shooter any day.

Paul Millsap will be the starting 3 next season.

Or, if Burks becomes the starting 2, maybe Hayward will be the starting 3. Isn't it fun to have options?

The comparison to Brewer is very weak (as some have already noted). Burks posses an ability to create off the dribble at 6'6". That is something Brewer is horrible at. He needed others to create for him (namely D-Will). All he can do offensively is finish around the rim. Burks can get his own shot, finish around the rim, and create for others. That is SO valuable at the end of a shot clock. That's something the Jazz leaned on D-Will heavily for, Burks will be able to take that role. All I've read in this thread is concerns about his shooting. The form doesn't look all that bad. I think he'll be adaquate. Wade and LeBron aren't great jump shooters either (not saying he's going to be that caliber, but just a reference point). I am far more concerned about his defense. His effort level on that side is going to improve big time. But overall I like the pick. He was definitely the BPA at that point in the draft. Now Leonard would have been Brewer 2.0. Be glad that didn't happen...

I love the Burks pick, but dang, we could have had George Hill for the 12th pick. KOC must not have talked to San Antonio very much. I am so glad that they have a 2 guard that can put it on the floor, get his own shot off, and has some length. TIME TO TRADE HAYWARD!!!!

Nah, I think that just means KOC considers Burks to be a better prospect than Hill.

Either that, or he has a deal lined up for a starting PG.

Or Spurs didn't want to give Hill to a conference rival.

And if he is, he won't be by week 2.
Yep. Jazz will not be a contender if Paul starts at the 3...unless he loses about 15 pound and gets quicker.
I didn't realize Burks could play PG. If that's the case, this becomes a potentially FANTASTIC pick. Hayward starts and Burks plays as a combo guard. Both can get 30+ mins if/when they're ready.

But if CJ starts, LOOK OUT NBA!

The Jazz are going to need more than one shooter on the court, and Paul is a better shooter than CJ. He creates a great mismatch in the post, the short corner, etc. against 3s on the offensive end. Further, CJ's nothing special defensively, and Paul should be able to man up opposing 3s as well as CJ has.

Paul Millsap was the Jazz's most efficient, well rounded and consistent player this past season. He's shown he can make major strides over an offseason (as he did with his J last year). He should be starting, and Kanter and Favors should also be getting minutes. The best way for the Jazz to win games is for Sap to get significant minutes at the 3.

Corbin was saying Burks can play at the 1, 2, or 3... Corbin kept making a point of saying Burks has a high basketball IQ and is excellent at passing off the dribble; and that his teammates will love playing with him... I agree. He will be a solid backup at the 2 & 3, while he learns our system. (needs to put on like 10 lbs for playing at the 3)

He also said they had Burks ranked above K. Leonard on their draft board. I guess they also had Kanter ranked at the 2 pick.

Jazz are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better off with him there than CJ getting the minutes.

If you've really seen Paul Millsap play, you know he can't play the 3. Defensively, he's nowhere near quick enough. He's got great reflexes which serve him well in the paint, but he can't follow 3's around all night. Offensively, he thrives off being defended by 4's. That's how he gets space on his shots. The step back works against those guys. He'll be absolutely terrible trying to come off screens to shoot. And he absolutely can't drive on the perimeter which makes him even easier to guard.

Favors, Kanter, Burks and Hayward... Nice to have lottery talent.
I remember when the Jazz didn't have any starters who were lottery picks. Now they have 5 of their main rotation players who were picked in the lottery (including Harris) and one who was picked #15 (Jefferson). Jazz have the raw talent, now it's just a matter of development and adding a veteran or two. Utah needs a quality starting SF and probably needs an upgrade over Harris.

As a Jimmer fan, I would have loved to have seen him on the Jazz, but I think having another big is WAY more important. Would have been a tough choice for KOC had Burks AND Jimmer both been there at #12. I'll bet he's relieved Sacramento made the choice for him.

We'll have to wait and see. I have a lot of trouble believing that CJ is a better option. He's terrible at everything and against everyone. Hell, he was garbage against bench players.

And if it doesn't work out, hopefully Big Al is prepared to come off the bench. The Jazz are better served with a starting frontcourt of Favors+Millsap than Favors+Big Al, as they'll need some decent shooters with CJ ****ing up all over the court.
