Summer 2019 Roster Discussion

“You can’t have the g league poor mans lemarcus Aldridge (you have to squint a little)as a thrown in... I don’t care that they made a logo out of you... you should see the balance beam print out on teh guy”

-DL to West...probably
“Unfortunately, Jerry, when I run this through the ESPN Trade Machine the Hollinger analysis says the Stars lose 4 more games.”

Not near as sexy but the other player I see us going for is Brogdon. Much lower ceiling but more gettable. A brogdon mitchell backcourt would be good, but we would still need to add another gunner. Maybe we can talk ourselves into fat Jabari. Don’t love him but firmly believe we need another gunner on this team. Don is the only one. Every other team has at least 2... Murray and jokic. Westbrook and George. Derozen Aldridge. Luka kristaps. Etc

I would much rather go after Brogdon than Russell. Unfortunately I think the Bucks will likely match any offer he receives.

BOBAN.

Sign him first day of free agency. $8-12M/yr over 3yrs. Solid backup for Rudy.

Jazz fans love them some locker room chemistry. Big fella and his buddy Tobias were made for that locker room.

Updated list of free agents: https://hoopshype.com/2019/02/08/nba-free-agency-2019-the-top-players/

Guys who are probably a waste of time:

- Brogdon - restricted free agent. Why would the Bucks let him go?
- Russell - restricted free agent. Why would the Nets let him go?
- Tobias - unrestricted free agent. Sixers didn't sacrifice all those assets on a flight risk
- Durant - worth a 10 second phone call just to make sure
- Klay - worth a 10 second phone call just to make sure
- Kawhi - worth a 10 second phone call just to make sure
- Kemba - worth a 10 second phone call just to make sure
- Middleton - worth a 10 second phone call just to make sure

Not worth wasting our time:

- Cousins
- Cauley Stein
- Rose
- Jordan
- Horford
- Gasol
- Porzingis
- Kyrie

there is another gunner/scorer on the team, but his defense has kept him glued to the bench most of the season.

For reals doe... Grayson and Dante better end up being good... the opportunity cost given up to get/keep them was significant.

was grayson's name truly brought up in any trades? unless it was for a true star, i didn't see the value in trading him which I said numerous times. he's been on the bench or injured most of the year, but has shown plenty of flashes of skill/improvement in very limited time, including defensively which is his biggest limiting factor in getting PT. jury is still way out on him and trading him this early would've been a mistake IMO. i bet NOP which they had hield right now, and i could see allen breaking out (maybe not to hield's current degree, but you get my point) like that if he got traded to a good situation where he can play without looking over his shoulder all the time. exum on the other hand, whilst often injured, has had plenty of chances to show value (and his injury history is another red flag in and of itself). he's the one who better pan out over the next 1-2 years especially after getting a decent contract for basically doing nothing all his career but defending harden in the playoffs last year. should've given him up for conley easily; i still can't believe lindsey valued him that much unless he really thinks he can get someone like harris, middleton, or brogdon this summer.

Didn’t read the whole thing... the pick that brought Grayson in could have been traded last year for Niko... which is what I was referring to.

Of the guys that are likely gettable... I think we'd have interest in -

- Bledsoe
- Randle
- Niko
-Bojan
- Brogdon - i think he can be had for big overpay... maybe
-Rudy Gay
- Danny Green
- Aminu
- Ross - Maybe... he's like a good shooting AB... kind of a space cadet.
- Ariza
- Satoransky
- Matthews
- Beverly
- lamb
- Bullock
-Parker
- Lin

If we added a top target or a combo of 2 of those guys I'd be satisfied. Like I think we could steal Niko or Randle and get a decent wing upgrade like Ross/Green/Bullock. Could also have enough dough to get Bojan and Rudy Gay... if our big game hunting goes poorly I think there are still some options to change the mix a bit.

The Bucks will have some decisions to make. I assume they max middleton. Bledsoe has been really good. I'm guessing he gets 20-25M... if they give him $25M it likely gets hard to keep malcolm. You could front load the offer a bit and go 22-23M and decline from there to get to 4/80ish... the tax could get heavy for them. My guess is they let Bledsoe or Niko walk and hope to retain Lopez with the taxpayer MLE of 3/18M. If they overpay for one of the non-Middleton FAs they have things could get ugly fast for them.

Good post. Lots of guys to look into for DL.

ownership is probably furious that they passed up on that Lakers offer.

I'm fairly sure that isn't how it works. I bet you the ownership were the ones passing on that deal and they just didn't want Demps handling the big important moves the franchise has coming this summer.

Our ability to get Jrue is predicated on one of our young players popping... Grayson, Dante, or our draft pick this year need to show serious promise... then we might have the package needed (good young player, picks) to get it done. He's under team control so long that even a trade demand is pretty toothless. He isn't good enough to ruin a tank by himself... I don't see the scenario where two firsts gets it done... not a good young player and two firsts puts you right there IF they want to pivot.

We can still dream... its been cool watching him a little closer and learning more about him... I am a fan of his whether or not he ends up here... straight fuggin class.

Sports in NOLA is a family type thing. I think they were personally disrespected by AD leaving the arena mid-game last night. I think they are doing damage control about a week too late. They see their young star with one foot out the door and are trying to save face. The Louisiana culture is all welcoming and inviting until you turn your back on them or disrespect them. I bet Mrs. Benson would have accepted the trade from LA just to move on from a guy who doesn't want the franchise.
