Summer 2019 Roster Discussion

Niko has never been in a situation where he’s actually relied on for his offense, which would be the one exception that we can provide that a lot of other people wouldn’t. I mean, Rodney Hood was relied on for his offense with us and averaged 16.8 PPG. He then averaged 10.8 ppg for Cleveland last year, 12.2 ppg for Cleveland this year, and 8.2 ppg with Portland. Niko has been averaging the same amount of points Hood did as one of our primary guys but in very secondary roles. He’s easily an 18 ppg guy for us As a pretty conservative estimate, and his volume three point shooting at the 4 would have a lot more value than Rodney’s volume three point shooting from the wing.

I can see that. I think we could get him a lot of good looks... or teams will end up allowing DM and Rudy to feast in the paint.

That’s the thing. Rudy is our second leading scorer, yet we can add an 18 ppg scorer simply because there’s a vacuum. Even if that person has an off night or is scouted, the defensive attention is huge.

I like the idea of Niko and Jae filling all the PF minutes... there are matchups where Jae would play more if the 4 has more dribble drive game, but I think they are a good mix. Niko's contract value is hard for me to get a read on... Nothing between 13-20M would surprise me... If you can get him around 15M and address other needs with the leftover space you are on to something.

I think Niko could be really solid for us. He is a solid player.

But if we are spending $20+, I would rather get the guy who has shown flashes of dominance. When Love is on, the guy is a game changer.

I need to see some great playoff performances from Niko before I start getting excited about giving $20 and dumping Favors to do it.

Bojan Bogdonovic is killing it right now... Indiana prolly wants to keep him but has lots of balls in the air. He's a guy I could see getting $20M and it is a steal or a decent overpay. Putting up 20+ pts per game since Vic is out and at amazing efficiency.

DM, Ingles, Bogdon, Jae/Royce/Favs?, Rudy

I like that lineup.

Man we are at the Sato/reddick/Oubre portion of the thread huh? Maybe I don’t hate the idea of trading for Kevin Love.

I like sato but just such a downgrade from our high hopes.

I would lose my mind in joy if the jazz signed Redick. He would kill it here. Look at what Korver is doing in a jazz uni at age 37. No telling what Redick would do here.

I wouldn't want him on a long term deal... dude is old and small... with the way he plays if he slows down he could be toast.

Depends on the amount of money. If we strike out with the big names, bringing back Favors and adding a guy like Redick could make us pretty dangerous.

If JJ Redick could maintain his current production and score 18 ppg for us, then that'd be huge. If anybody could score 18 ppg for us, that'd be huge.

S&T Redick to us for Exum. Reunite the two besties.

I'm a Redick fan. But Redick does absolutely nothing that improves our current team.

He shoots the ball. He scores. Plus, I don’t think Quin would feel obligated to play him “just because,” and that, alone, can be a big upgrade point.

I'm convinced we have to do something. Being stuck in the pack in the west isn't going to get us anywhere but middling picks and 1st/2nd round pink slips.

Tobias Harris is the third wheel we'll need, but think he'll stay in Philly.

You don't think a starting lineup with Donovan, Redick, Ingles, Favors and Gobert is an improvement over what we currently have? Even if Exum emerges as our starter, wouldn't be that much better bringing Redick, Korver, O'Neale, and Crowder off the bench?

He does not create shots off the dribble. We need shot creation. More shooters does not solve the fundamental problem we face. We already have shooters. But the offense stagnates because Donovan is the only one on the roster who is a threat to break anyone down off of the dribble. When the defense is able to slow him down or he's not feeling it, we struggle. And we'd struggle no matter how many shooters are on the floor.

We can get Redick. And he'll shoot it well. Just like Korver. I'm sure of that. But the offense will have the exact same problems.

Not really, no. It's a roster with the same problem our current roster has.

You are making very good points and I agree with you to a certain extent.

If we can't get one of these few good free agent guys who can create offense, I think Redick is still an improvement over what we currently have. I would rather start next season with Redick (a proven NBA specialist) than Rubio, some inconsistent project like Oubre, or another guy who might not have a specialty. At the very least, Redick is yet another player that opponents have to gameplan for when they face us.

i don't think that's a given He 100% completely dodged the question of staying long term when asked by a reporter in Philly couple days ago
