Stupid Pet Peeves

people who say "I stay in [name of town]" or "where do you stay" when they mean where they (or you) live
Sounds a little as if English isn't their first language.

So I just got an email from Turbotax telling me that this is the last day to get 25% off filing my taxes with Trubotax.

I've used turbotax for over a decade. I've tried to do it for free... it has NEVER been free. Not free free free, free free, free, free free free. Never.

Yep.
I used turbo tax for many years. Then I found a place in West valley that will do my taxes for 60 bucks.
I go there now (for the last 3 years)

When a coworker doesn't believe that you have done all you can to research an account and you know there is no further paper trail to be followed because the file has been destroyed long before, but she still insists that she is going to try to find the file because she has been around a lot longer than me and might see something I'm not seeing. WTH? What is there to see in a non-existent, destroyed file?

Kids birthday parties and how lavish and expensive they have become.

Not my kids. Since all the birthdays are over the summer, they basically get to choose to have a late night party where we'll watch an movie in our backyard (we have a projector and hang a white sheet of the balcony) or they can have a water party where we blow up our giant inflatable water slide and they play for a couple hours. Those are their choices. As they've aged, they're starting to opt for the late night movie.

Just had 500ml of blood drained from my abdomen at the cost of 230 bucks, gotta go into work next Thursday to have the rest drained with ultra sound guidance (approx another 500ml) for an additional 480. Yay!

This applies to a good number of celebrations - it's too much. Inviting your 25+ nearest and dearest to the stand-alone ultrasound studio for a gender reveal party? UGH.

And speaking of over the top parties, I'll have to find the article I saw about a backlash against "goody bags" and how extravagant they've become

I agree. Halloween parties, Superbowl parties, basically every get together has these expectations now. It makes me not want to ever have people over. Have to clean the whole house, cook for a bunch of people (**** loads of dishes to do later) provide some form of entertainment, and on and on.

I miss the days of just contacting a bunch of friends and saying come on over to my house and let's get drunk. Byob.
No one cared if your house was spotless or what food was going to be provided or whatever. Just friends getting together and having fun socializing. Nothing more. I miss that

We exclusively use paper plates and plastic silverware/cups when we have more than just a couple of people over.
I use frisbees and butcher paper when we do barbecue get togethers. Throw the paper away, hose off the frisbees. Saw it at a really cool dive restaurant with a surfer theme and copied it.

We consider that but ultimately don't like the effect it has on the environment.

Ugh. How do you feel?

My 70 year old dad was in a really bad bicycling accident this past summer. Scary ****. I went to the trauma center a few hours after to see him. He’d ask the same question every five minutes. No short term memory. He was better with that by the next day. The tests showed no bleeding. But a few weeks later, he started getting excruciating headaches. Went to the doctor. He had a hematoma. It didn’t show up originally because it was a slow bleed. Over the course of the next couple months, his brain moved 18 millimeters which is just crazy to me.

We thought he was gonna have to have his head drilled so they could remove fluid and let the brain breathe so to speak but we didn’t have to thank goodness. He still has some lingering issues now and then though.

It was getting bigger a few weeks ago and i had a mild headache so I went to the local hospital and had a contrast CT done, showed no bleeding, but they sent me home with a hematoma with over a litre of fluid in it, was impossible to do anything without pain or discomfort, I was pretty pissed with them, so I shilled out to have it done privately. The drainage I had yesterday has made a big difference had the best nights sleep I've had in weeks, even through I've had to wear a belt all night to stop fluid refilling the pocket, I'll swap that for some strapping tonight which I'll leave on for a couple more days. Its much better should be able to start working out again tomorrow or Saturday. After i have it finished off on Thursday I'll strap it for probably four days and fingers crossed it will be sweet.

18 millimeters is a huge movement, you should see some of the crazy brain injuries we get at work, (my work is a world leader in Neurosurgery) we are routinely having to hold people down with chunks of their skull missing, great fun.
