Following Potential Draftees - 2019 (not kidding)

Based on what I'm seeing in basketball-related media Luka Samanic seems to still be a bit undervalued, although it sounds as though the Spurs like him. I'd feel comfortable taking Samanic ahead of Cam Johnson and Grant Williams. Samanic is a stretch 4 with ball skills.

Here is some good footage of Kabengele that someone put together. In the Duke game, there are some really nice defensive sequences, some offensive rebounds with 2nd and 3rd efforts, and a few questionable (bad) shot selections. At the end of the Duke game, Barrett isolates on him, and Kab does a good job staying in front and contesting. Definitely has some tools to work with. He also always plays hard, something the Jazz will definitely like. Kab finished with 24/10 and 3 or 4 blocks against Duke.

In the VT game, he shows how limited he is off the dribble. If he gets doubled out on the floor, he has a hard time moving the ball and ends up with a couple turnovers. Fla. State didn't play with much of an offensive system, so I'd be curious to see if Kab can play in a system like the Jazz run. The defense, the rebounding and, for the most part, the rim rolls look to be there. He can also spot up from the corners or above the break.

The question is whether he's a backup 5 (say, like Thomas Bryant with more bounce and motor), or if he can play at the 4 with the right coaching and discipline. He's nowhere near the kind of on-ball creator that we've had with guys like Joe Johnson, Boris Diaw or even Georges Niang. That's in part why we should also be looking at Luka Samanic and PJ Washington. Dude is a physically intimidating beast though. If he's a 4th or 5th option on offense, like Favors has been, it might work.

Didn't want to make a thread, but figured this would work in here. What are your guy's thoughts on this? Pretty big name kid going over seas to play ball. I actually love his quote that's something along the lines of, "I didn't grow up dreaming to become a college basketball player. I grew up dreaming to become a professional basketball player."

Go get it, son.

Let high school kids eligible for the NBA already.

Having looked at the highlights for most of the players mentioned lately in this thread I'm going with the best player available over drafting for need and to me it's Naz Reid easily. He is pretty incredible offensively. He has a full-on NBA body. He can pass, dribble and he has unlimited moves in his quiver. And he can shoot. It's a big gamble in terms of his conditioning, defense and effort on the court, and he is not at our most needed position, but IMO his upside could be huge.

If we didn't have high character guys like Donovan, Rudy, Joe, Jae, etc. it would be too big of a risk. I'd only draft him under the assumption that this team could help him reach his potential.

He really is talented. What do you think of his defense?

Cam Johnson really doesn't have the D part of 3 and D yet, but he's an elite shooter with a quick release and excellent range, and probably underrated in terms of a guy who can attack closeouts at 6'8" with a 37" vert. And maybe he can learn to defend - has adequate athleticism to do that. i wouldn't be pissed if the jazz were to take him.

He's Luke Babbit. No thanks.

Klutch Sports had a pro day in LA today. A couple guys I like--Bazley and Horton-Tucker--ran through some drills. There was a good turnout of execs and scouts. Here are some tweet vids from Jonathan Givony. THT could pretty easily lose 10 lbs, but he's still more of a wing than a guard, imo. I don't think he wants to chase quick guards around, but you could probably play him as an on-the-ball wing, as a Paul Pierce of sorts.

Who was it last year?

That's a good question. HH is talking about how there is a Carsen Edwards in every draft who doesn't live up to expectations. Who are the comps?

I think Carsen Edwards is the guy we should be looking to get. He is an offensive minded PG who has deep range. His measurements stick out to me - 6'6" wingspan and 200 pounds. He weighs 25 pounds more than Chris Paul who has a 6'4" wingspan. Steph Curry is 6'3" with a 6'4" wingspan and only 190 pounds. Deron Williams was 6'3" with a 6'6" wingspan and 200 pounds.

The dude is solid. Carsen should be one of our top targets. He is unlike anything we have and could potentially provide exactly what we need - offense from our PG.
