2020 Presidential election

The election is in 83 days. Early voting starts in five weeks in places like Michigan.

The cake is going to be a long bake.

Me. I know nothing of her. I also know nothing about pence.

About as bad as Regan in terms of the war on drugs, jailing parents who's kids are truant, going out of her way to block DNA testing for appeals leading to an abnormally large amount of innocents on death row under her watch. She is full of ****. She just happens to be a black woman so she gets so much leeway.

I clicked the link and it wanted me to set up an account so I didn't read it.

Long story short. She did and does everything she can to be unfair to the poor, who are usually the minorities. No DNA testing becuase that might clear someone she has convicted, parent has to work 3 jobs to pay the bills, so they can't control the kids 100% ... send them to jail. She is a liar, not quite on par with Trump but not terribly far off, and she is a sleeze. She has learned to play the game and has risen to the top, but that does not make her a good person.

Kamala "piece of **** sleezy *** hypocrite" Harris? Are you kidding me? I don't care if she came from immagrants, she was a horrendous AG and is a horrible VP pick. Holy christ.
So history matters now? Kamala’s history? Why can’t we just have a productive discussion grounded in present dynamics??

She has KILLED blacks in this country. She is awful. Drug war, truancy war, she is awful in every single way other than being a black woman I guess.

Also, in that pretending she has been been some anti-law protestor will ring very hollow.

Verrrrry difficult to find anyone who wouldn’t quickly become a caricature. The game is finding someone whose caricature is least alienating or some **** like that.

Kamala is first and foremost a climber and an opportunist. She’s harder to cancel than most. She’ll land good jabs, hooks, and uppercuts from now to Nov 3. She’s on the judiciary committee in case the election gets called into question. She isn’t an ideologue, so we don’t need to go down that divisive news cycle again.

This is far from a perfect ticket. As a progressive, I’m trying to tell myself that she and Biden can both be tugged in this direction once we’re done with coalition politics and getting to the task of governing.

Past performance is normally at least a decent indicator of future performance. They are not generally mutually exclusive.

She has and will make bad decisions. Not sure what the argument is.
Good news is the VP doesn't seem to have all that much power. I don't ever hear the name Mike Pence even come up.
So hopefully if she sucks that bad then in 2024 the Republicans (and independents) will give us some good options for the presidency.

Except Biden appears to be on his death bed already.

The truth is, Kamala has a strong record as AG for actually being pro law enforcement and hard on crime which was fashionable for both political parties until 5 minutes ago. While it would’ve been nice if she had been more visionary as an AG, that’s not a deal breaker for me. Especially on that subject. With few exceptions, people want tough on crime AGs. I’d be interested to know how many on this board have seen their views change in race and drugs in the last 5-10 years? I know mine sure have after reading several books on the subject. I even know now that there are some AGs and judges pushing for judicial reform to try to make rehab not punishment more of a focus. But that’s only starting now in 2020. It’s a pretty recent view. Why shouldn’t Kamala be given the same leeway?

She’s very intelligent. She’s progressive on many other issues. She can give a marginalized community (Black women), a voice. And she’s going to utterly destroy Pence in their debate.

So I’m fine with this pick. Obviously, if I were part of the Trump campaign, I’d try to use her record as AG as an attempt to suppress black votes. It probably won’t work. But it’s certainly a better option than calling her a whore or questioning whether she’s black or not. That’s what Donald’s campaign and sons have been trying to do over the last 48 hrs. pretty dumb.

Tom Cotton, Ted Cruz, Ben Sasse, and Marco Rubio all say hi!

what’s funny is that romney might be in a far stronger position in 2024 to run in the general than he was in 2012. Not sure if he still has presidential ambitions or if his Trumpified party would give him the nomination.

Here's the reality: if Kamala is tough on crime, she's considered a traitor to those with similar roots and cold-hearted. If she was light on crime, every Republican would be screaming that she doesn't believe in law and order and is apparently fine with murderers roaming the street preying on your kids.

Tale as old as time - you'll never be everything to everyone.
