Derrick Favors now with "Dwight Howard-type shoulders"

List of players with "Dwight Howard shoulders"
1) Dwight Howard

Also, not to be too much of a bummer but Dwight Howard is much more likely than Derrick Favors to have grown since they were measured.

Howard has grown, there is no question about it. He stands about equal to Chris Bosh who is a legit 6'11" on the Olympic pic I have side by side, no funny angles. He may be wearing platform inserts, but doubt it. Anyways, its safe to say his standing reach is at least 9'4" now, a full two inches over Favors. Unless Favors grows, which is very rare despite our cheerleading, Howard will always have a physical advantage over him.

Will Favors be able to play center still? Yes. Will he be undersized at least half the time? Unfortunately, yes.

Do you think Tyson Chandler and Andrew Bogut are undersized at the center spot? Both have standing reach of 9'2"...

Greg Monroe's reach is 9'0.5" and Noah's is 8'11.5".

Favors could play center last season with his length and athleticism, and with the bulk he added, he can definitely play center IMO.

My bad... I stand corrected. Bogut's reach is 9'2.5" and Noah's is 8'10.5".

Other starting centers whose data is available on DraftExpress:

J McGee - 9'6.5"
Brook Lopez - 9'5"
DeMarcus Cousins - 9'5"
Chris Kaman - 9'2.5"
M Gortat - 9'2"
Andre Bargnani - 9'2"
Nene - 9'1"
Amare Stoudemire - 9'0.5"
Al Horford - 8'11"

It is totally possible that Favors has legit size for a 5. But these constant comparisons to the most physically dominant specimen outside of Shaq are just absurd.

Let us keep our feet on the ground, please.

Yeah, get real people, Howard is nowhere near as big as Favors.

-Well Chandler came out of high school and was measured very young at the combine. He is listed at only 7' in shoes and is obviously much taller now. He is just a slightly above average center anyways, never a consistent double double threat and never cracked 2 blocks a game....

-Monroe the jury is still out. He is a smart efficient player but don't think his defense is anything special at center. Like I said the jury is still out, I wouldn't trade Favors for him though.

-Bogut is a legit argument, although being a natural 7 footer has some slight advantages over a longer armed 6'10 guy. Otherwise we could have ran AK and or Jeremy Evans at center who both have well into the 9's in standing reach.

-Noah is a little over rated I thought the Bulls were much better with Asik as their center. When Noah was matched up against a true center he was often exposed. There is no denying Noah plays the game with a fire and intensity though, I don't see Favors having that.

What?

It's not Bogut's height that gives him an advantage over AK at the 5, it's his weight/strength. The height obsession on this board is truly mind boggling.

Asik > Noah? Holy ****.

Yes, my argument was Bogut's natural size lets him anchor a defense better than a 6'9" or 6'10" guy. You read it wrong or I wrote it poorly.

I like Asik as a true center over Noah. You have to watch the games to appreciate the massive impact he has on defense, it doesn't show up on box scores. Noah is thought to have much better offense but is a garbage man at heart....those guys get exposed against elite teams. In the Miami series he averaged 6 PPG at 31%

Nobody thinks Noah's good because of his offense, but it's still a **** load better than Asik's.
