Can We Please Just Waive NWG?

I'm also not trying to be whiny and I asked nicely. I think Shaq is available for the minimum based on the deal RHJ got. I am fairly certain it would be easy to do a sign and trade with the Bulls using the TB trade exception and sending them a fake 2nd and $115,000 in cash (the minimum you can send) for their troubles. Could give him a 2-3 year deal around $3M a year and I would bet that is more than the market is churning up for him currently. He's a great defender... like elite. The other stuff he provides would be icing on the cake at that number.

We aren't getting out of the tax (without a trade) and this maneuver will cost and extra 4M in tax and salary this year but could be a real asset. Do you think Balmer would even bat an eye at $4m? Cuban? It would also potentially lead to big savings if having another valuable rotation player lets you move Mike for less returning salary.

Or we could just say he is the 3rd pg and when we have an injury or two he can play and get exposed... it will be midseason and options will be limited so we roll with it. This is the Tony Bradley MO.

Or we could have good health and no need for NWG because he's a one position player. Meanwhile the perimeter defense could still use a handsy defender and Shaq could have logged some minutes along the way.

Not making roster improvements because you want to clear the way for a young guy to get some minutes or because another guy can help the practice team be more organized is dumb... sorry. It wreaks of wanting success using your guys/projects and not just wanting success and giving the team the best shot at it.

There’s no reason not to add Shaq and/or Roberson if you can get them in minimums.

Show me your G League guys with defensive highlight tapes like this:

You can’t because he’s guarding everyone from Lowry and Dragic types to Luka in that clip and those guys don’t play in the g league. He also has multiple help blocks on bigs.

He’s a do **** guy and we have maybe one do **** guy on this team.

So I'm going to go ahead and call my shot. We're going to watch the problems unfold this year, then going into the off-season there's going to be talk on how we plan to bolster our perimeter defense. This will all be the prelude to us using most of the MLE on Exum. Then we'll get commentary like "solid move, you see that the Jazz could really have used Exum's services this year" from a number of media sources.

Just think about being Miye or Niang and learning the Jazz brought in a guy that could take your playing time... they gonna work harder or pack it up. It isn’t just Shaq. There are other guys out there that are way more useful. Most of us try to get value out of every roster spot we have on our fantasy teams... I expect nba franchises to do the same. The current depth chart works well until Bojan isn’t ready to start the season or Mike’s hamstrings act up and another guys gets Covid and is out for a month.

And those guys won’t be there even if @Saint Cy of JFC says they will be... they go overseas or get signed by other clubs. No G league season so you won’t find a diamond there. Hell the g league mvp is a point guard and is unsigned. If NWG was a free agent no one here would be looking for us to ho get him.

This is the same front office that kept Exum too long and picked up TBs options only to have to dump him... there isn’t some mind blowing end game... they simply don’t make a move because that is easier.
I guarantee we would be calling for NWG if we never brought him over and saw the kind of play he would be delivering in Euroleague. It already happened lmao

Nooooooooooooooo! I’ll rage quit.

If he was on another team and had his current g league numbers no one would be clamoring for him.

Shaq could be the difference maker in several games and especially the playoffs if injuries occur. If we have to play NWG in the playoffs - we'd be holding our breath, every second he's on the floor.

When every possession matters (in the playoffs) a defensive point guard who gets things done can be HUGE. The Lakers should probably try to trade and get Rondo back on the roster before the playoffs - he was instrumental in their winning the championship last year. Without him, the Nuggets series and Miami series both would have gone 7 games - and then both of those could have gone either way.

We had his rights when he was in Europe. Nobody here was calling for him. Nobody cared when we signed him.

No, we'll successively see worse and worse options available that we'll eventually just throw our hands up and accept it.
Good news is we don’t have full MLE next year only the taxpayer MLE... bad news is it’s easier to justify the taxpayer MLE on Bustum.

Anytime you can invest a couple years to develop the next Neto you have to do it. It isn’t like guys like they are available for the minimum currently.

Lost in all of this is that we could just have signed Neto. An actually respectable 3rd string PG that *locker-room guy/run sets/blah blah argument*.
It was not lost at all... it was exactly what I was referencing.

He also had the 2nd best net rating (11.2), right behind Juwan Morgan (11.8), on the Stars. To compare the highest net rating on Utah was Gobert at 6.2 (all per NBA.com stats page)

Maybe he just needs a shot.

Amazing... just jaw dropping.

I mean Shaq had a 2.8 bpm on a ****** NBA team and was an astonishing net plus 12.2 (Rudy was a net 10.9 for reference) in the NBA. But those numbers are from the NBA so its probably not super applicable to the Jazz who also play in the NBA... oh wait.
