The problem with the Bench last year is that we could get into Janky running games with Clarkson or extended play Mitchell working for a shot and playing way too fast. Having the luxury of slowing things down for a Jingles/Favors pick and roll will be so big. Being able to work off this action will lessen the amount of points in transition that would generate from a long contested shot, which was a huge problem last year. Aren't many back up bigs that are going to stop a rolling Favors one on one. Having more play at the rim will also improve offensive rebounding from the bench.

Our bench will finally be able to create mismatches instead of just attempting to solve them.

He came off the bench for more than 1/3 of the season, most especially toward the pre-bubble end, I think.
And had nobody like Favors to play with. The season before last we saw how hearty a staple the Ingles-Favors PnR was against opposing second units. I really think it’s hard to overestimate how important that action will be. And then they have Clarkson slinging alongside them. It should be good.

I think what NAOS was trying to say is that bringing Favors back also improves Ingles' play. Without a rolling big he was useless on offense. The Ingles + Favors combo is a killer....

At least that's what I think.

I just replied to idiot and didn't notice you had done it already. Yeah, I think the Favors+Ingles combo elevates the 2nd unit to another level.

Conversely, the starting lineup is gonna be clunky.

The Jazz had the second most effective starting lineup in the league last year. The entire unit returns. I'm not a genius, but great starters combined with great bench seems like a recipe for sucess.

How could this possibly go wrong? (it will somehow)
Which starting lineup?

You think so?

I think everyone knows I’m not a big Condiddley fan, but MC, DM, Royce, Bojan, and Rudy can get the job done.
In a vacuum, Ingles should not play a single minute without Gobert on the floor since their chemistry is so good and since Gobert isn't above having his defensive effort impacted by his offensive involvement. Conley hasn't shown very good chemistry with Gobert and has spent all but last year pounding the air out of the ball. Mitchell's gonna try to put up 30 every game, and Bojan will put up any shot that looks half good. Royce is unselfish but not exactly sick at setting people up.

I'm a Debbie Downer. Ingles has been the third best/most important player on this team for the previous three seasons and his chemistry with Gobert is a huge part of that (not to mention that it's good with basically everyone... except Conley).

If it were me, I’d start:

Donovan
Shaq
Ingles
Bojan
Gobert
I'd roll with the lineup we know is our best (and that we will probably rarely see now, somehow):

Don
Royce
Joe
Bojan
Rudy

I know they got to take care of everyone's egos, but the Jazz need to find a way to put that lineup out as much as possible. If they wanna try making Favors a pure backup most of the time, they could still start Conley but sub him out at minute 4:00 for Joe at each quarter.

First half of the season the starting lineup was clunky AF. That was Conley not able to hit a shot + isoDonovan.
