Gordon Hayward can not Score in the NBA

Please, answer my question. Have there been any players that have sucked in the summer league only to turn out very well in the NBA? Because it's probably influential on how I'd react if he'd been sucking so far.

Of course you can have it both ways. You have yet to prove it otherwise. Some players have looked great in the summer league only to suck in the NBA. But how many players have sucked in the summer league only to have great NBA careers?

Of course players can suck in the summer league and go on to have a good career and be great players in the NBA. I'm not arguing that. Eric Maynor sucked last year in the summer league, and he'll probably have better than average NBA career.

And why don't you answer Archie's question? His point completely counters yours. How many players have played well in summer league only to suck in the NBA or not even play in the NBA? It's happened in both circumstances and it's tough to gauge what they are going to be. But Archie has reason to be high on Hayward right now because he's played very efficient. He's not proclaiming he's going to be the rookie of the year.

we all know that everyone can. You can fly to the moon.

But until someone actually has a terrible summer league campaign only to succeed well at the NBA level, why is it wrong for me to, as you put it, "have it both ways?"

Again, name me some players that have sucked in the summer league and have succeeded well at the NBA level? Then, I will admit to being incorrect in my assumption that had Hayward been playing poorly then I would use it as indication as he being unable to succeed at the NBA level.

Unfortunately, up until now, no one has shown any example of a player playing poorly only to succeed. However, we've seen plenty of Summer League and D-League all stars who sizzle out at the NBA level.

Hence, my level of hesitation in declaring Hayward a success remains unhindered. I'll root for him, but lets remember, it's still only summer league.

If you look at how a player plays, that is what tells you they will be good.

If a player comes in, jacks up a ton of shots, and scores a lot. That isnt a good sign. Guys like Almond, and countless other scorers can do that fairly easily against inferior opponents and a small stage.

If a player comes in, plays hard, smart, rebounds, plays D, does the little things, and scores efficiently, then that is a better sign.

Coaches are looking for players who are in control of their games at all times, and Hayward has shown that completely, and thats who you will see teams pick up, players who are in control at all times.

Everyone just needs to calm down and stop speculating on Hayward.

We will not know what type of player he is until he plays alot of NBA games, so please stop the speculation. This has gone on long enough.

Agreed.

Don't speculate in an NBA Forum..........? Really? did you really just say that?

The whole point to this forum is to speculate and make predictions about the future.

I think if Hayward's athleticism can translate into the NBA than he will be a good role player. If it does not translate than he will be out of the league in 3-4 years.
My prediction about him is out of the league still. But the Summer league sure impressed me so far. I could be totally wrong. His effort could keep him in the league. The way Harpring stayed in the league so long.

What are supposed to do as fans then? Fans are entitled to speculate, make judgments, educated guess and whatever they want about players. That's part of why being a fan is fun, or no?

hey! Don't i know you? We've finally been reunited. I suck hard, and so do you!!!! I love you.

Dear Jazzfanz posters,

It has been brought to our attention that it's "only summer league" ball going on right now. Thanks for letting us know time and time again. We were ignorant and unaware about what league and level of play was going on right now in the summer. Thanks so much for bringing it to our attention. We are undoubtedly in your debts.

Much love,

Archie Moses and Co

....playing in the Summer League is the equivalent to playing in the "AND1" league! Of course a guy like Heyward would do poorly with all those knot-heads running around like chickens with their heads cut off! If he's doing well now....he's going to do even better with the Jazz and Deron directing traffic, running plays and setting him up to succeed!

Right. It is impossible to speculate until we see more from him.

All I'm saying is atleast wait until you have all the facts until you start speculating, otherwise its just a big guessing game.

If all this forum has devolved into is a place of rampant speculation then count me out, I want nothing to do with that garbage.

Prognosticating and theorizing is one thing, but blatantly speculating without all the facts? Thats in an entirely different league. The Busch League.

What facts have myself or others left out? The fact that Hayward looks pretty good in the summer league and scoring 22 points on 7 shots? I'm confused.

Hayward looks like the real deal to me. He's got size, fairly good quickness for his size, good ball handling skills and vision, a nice stroke, and a good basketball IQ, and he's only 20 years old. He's just the kind of player Jerry drools over. He'll be a lot better than Harpring. Like I've been saying, he's a 6-8 Horny.

Hopefully without the knees of Hornacek.

But yes. I was quite impressed with his play. I would have liked to see more aggressive to the hole stuff, but he seems much more refined than the other players skill wise.
