What's new

On the radar: 2012 Draft Class

Very true, Austin is very iffy. He's a kid that can average 30pts as a freshman though. If he can get a couple assists in there and slightly increase his efficiency, scouts will be salivating for a big time scorer. He's a scoring machine, but also a ballhog .. and dislikes defense. We'll see what he does.

Yeah, unfortunately we have to wait another month to see what ANY of these guys do :P god I'm going crazy with no basketball. The only thing holding me together are these discussions, so thanks everyone lol

I am still hoping for Terrance jones. I think he is the perfect fit for a bench player. Can play multiple positions. Although he is a lot like millsap.

If you watch some of Terrence this year I think you'll see a player not all that like Millsap. First of all, he was just re-measured and is a hair over 6'9 and is a very solid 255lbs. Even at that height and weight he still has above average athleticism. I bet you'll see him shoot near 40% from 3 this year (only 34% last year, but I'd wager major improvement) and show off much more of his perimeter game. He's big, strong, and athletic enough to be a NBA PF .. but his ball-handling, passing, and shooting touch will be a tough match up. He'll play either SF or PF depending on the opponent. He's also a lefty and has a very intense/agressive attitude on the court (wants to take over).

Having said all that, he's going to have to get much stronger with his off hand and increase his effectiveness going right with the ball. He also needs to show much more maturity on the court and cut down on truly DUMB decisions (over eager). He'll be fun to watch, for sure. He has an incredible amount of talent around him at EVERY position so no team will be able to double him this year (last year they could). He's got all the skill, he'll just need to do a better job of thinking.

Nice writeup on the small forwards of 2012.

McAdoo over Barnes? Interesting.

Not bad for nbadraft.net .. but McAdoo over Barnes as a SF, no. McAdoo is definitely a 3-4 tweaner with a heavy slant toward the 4. Barnes is a 2-3 that could go either way. I really like McAdoo's game, but I just don't see him as a big time 3. Also don't see CJ Leslie as a 3 .. more of a tweaner/PF. Quincy could be the best of the group if he works as hard as the rest, could be real special.

Jones is getting so big (6'9 255lbs) that I can see him at PF as well .. for SF's, I'd say Barnes, Quincy (if he works hard), Gilchrist, Nash (if he works hard), and Adonis .. in that order.

Barnes is growing on me, but I still have questions about how well his game will translate to the next level--basically the same questions people would have about Evan Turner, Calbert Cheaney, even Danny Manning, great college players who didn't dominate in the NBA.

I think Barnes will be a stud in the NBA, but this ^^^ is precisely why you should tend to lean big in a draft .. higher potential for success. Of course, it doesn't always work perfectly, but the odds are in your favor when drafting big.

If Austin Rivers turns into a poor man's Monta Ellis, he will be lucky. Garbage player.

So, if there is no NBA season, do they just redo the lottery again with the last played season's records determining your odds and order? Obviously we wouldn't have the Nets pick again.

Still undecided. There's been a lot of talk of mirroring the NHL's solution after their missed season. All speculation at this point.

Either way, the Jazz would own the Warriors pick (top 7 protected) and maybe their own (I forget the protection).

4 lottery pick rookies on one team, accompanied by a lottery pick PG and C. Would we finally have one of the most "talented" teams in the league?

Wow, so impressed with Terrence Jones tonight. Prediction for this season = domination. Gilchrist looked much less 'raw' than recent reports have indicated and looked more like the player everyone has expected, but Jones was a true beast.

He looking more like a SF or PF at this point?

Jury is still out. He can definitely play PF, but he has the handles, passing, and explosiveness to play the SF as well, I believe. Huge guy to have the skillset/mobility that he has.

Sounds like the Lamar Odom comparisons are pretty valid.
