Mitchell injury

This is f'd up in my opinion. In recent years the trainers have been too conservative. Think of all the times Karl and John played when they were not 100 percent. This is the playoffs, damn it. If we end up losing, you know who to blame because they have given the Grizz the confidence that they can beat us.

I think we already know.

Donovan felt great and was ready play and wanted to play.

Jazz management felt great about their chances to win game 1 without Donovan so they chose to sit him out.

If this ends up costing Utah this series, I'm okay firing everyone who signed off on this, and yes, that includes trainers, coaches and anyone in the front office.

Losing Game 1 of a series against a team you are heavily favored over doesnt lose you the series. Losing 4 games loses you a series.

Really? It's not a one-game series? Damn.

No...but losing the trust of your best player, who's now upset over being sat despite likely being told he would be playing, creates a level of drama that is absolutely not ideal, especially with the team in a hole already.

Instead of the triumphant return of Mitchell, we've gotta hope that if he comes back, that anger isn't now a real problem for the team. And if he doesn't come back? Well, I'm not so sure I feel confident in Utah winning this series.

Bottom line: this level of drama can be cancerous and absolutely cripple the team in a series they very well could lose because of it - or set them up for a bit of failure down the road.

If this series goes 7 because of trash decision making early, who knows what impact that'll have on the second round? And to be honest, if this season ends before at least the WCF, it'll be a failure.

The worst part is that it continues to confirm that Mitchell is going to be a diva. He freaked out over the Gobert thing and leaked everything to the media and now he's freaking out over the medical staff and leaking everything to the media.

If you want to be a conspiracy theorist, Utah is flexing some muscle here and sending a message that he can't just get his own rehab team to clear him, he has to be clear by team doctors. Is that good? I have no idea. Utah has him under a long-term contract, so they arent risking a lot. The worse Mitchell can do is be mad.

So you are saying that if Mitchell comes back he is going to be so pissy that the Jazz will lose a series they are heavily favored in?

This is not how I saw the playoffs for the #1 seed Jazz starting at all. I'm not talking about dropping a game. I'm talking about turmoil in the locker room and with the FO and players.

WTF is even happening right now?

Our postseason is feeling tainted after one ****ing game.

If **** goes sideways after last season's 3-1 collapse then I don't know how it doesn't take a generation for this small market team to recover from that. And I mean AFTER Gobert, Mitchell and Ingles are gone.

Let's right this ship! Get out of the first round clean and make this season count for something.

Wish Donovan had just said I will be back for game 2 and Memphis will be dispatched in short order
Team rallies around Donovan. End of discussion.

So I think it's pretty clear now:

Mitchell wasnt happy with his rehab progression so he got his own medical team to take over.

The Jazz's staff is upset, feeling undermined, so when they got the opportunity they held him out of the game to send a message.

The question is, one that we can't possibly know for certain, is the staff legitimately making a decision they believe in or just doing it to send a message?

I'm saying that having friction between your star player and the coaching staff / front office is not ideal and could prove pretty ****ing toxic.

It's not hard to figure out.

I mean, I know it's easy to treat players like they're puppets who are solely there for our entertainment...but these are actual real-life human beings with real emotions and feelings. And as much as it'd be nice to just believe these types of issues can't impact the chemistry of a team, the fact is, because you're dealing with humans and human emotions, it's not always that easy.

I don't think Mitchell would ever purposely do anything to harm his ability or the team's, but that doesn't mean it can't play a role.

Regardless, the last thing the Jazz needs right now is this ********.

So it's almost like the team medical staff dug in their heels and wanted to assert their authority because Donovan got his own personal trainers.

This is getting worse by the minute.
Possible, or they legitimately believe there is more to this injury and that Mitchell just got "yes men" to tell him what he wanted.
