Utes 2011 Football Discussion

That was a pretty terrible feed. KJZZHD my ###. Hopefully they win out and Wynn is never ever given the starting job again. I would rather we have one of our freshman coming in than Wynn.

Why? Since Wynn got hurt our offense went from bad to non existent. Hayes is slowly starting to come around but Wynn is still the far better QB of the 2.

The QB spot could be a potential nightmare again for Utah next season. Yes, Hayes will be more seasoned, but what is his ceiling? Hell, Utah was the only D1 school interested in him and that was at the last second. I just don't think you're going to see much better from him. Wynn could reasonably come back quicker from this shoulder injury because it's his non-throwing arm, but he's always going to be 1 play away being done for. He's Utah's version of Chad Pennington. IMO Utah better hope the true fresman from SoCal steps in and earns the job this fall. They may also want to look heavily into the JC ranks.

It will be a shame if Utah can't get good QB play next year because the team could be really good. We've already talked about how Utah returns much of their defense, but that WR corps is going to be LOADED next year. Every single major contributor coming back and the addition of Josh Gordon from Baylor who looks to be a beast. Not to mention the fact that John White will be returning in the backfield to keep defenses honest.

It could end up being an amazingly dynamic offense if they can find a way to get decent QB play.

I disagree about the QB position next year. I think it actually looks pretty good next year. You will have Wynn back, hopefully 100% healthy. When healthy, Wynn is a very good QB. Not a world beater, neither was Brian Johnson, and Wynn's defense is at least as good as Johnson's. As backups you will have Hays, with a lot of experience at that point, Shreve as a Redshirt Freshman and hopefully Travis Wilson keeps his commitment. That is depth. Nothing amazing, but Wynn is good enough to not lose games ala Hays, and Wynn can even carry the team at times (see last drive of the first half against BYU and the 4th quarter against USC.).

The QB position isn't great, but headed in the right direction. If Wilson keeps his commitment, we will have very good to great QB's for the next 6-8 years (Wilson then Hansen). They just need to keep building and adding to the talent.

Jordan Wynn is NOT good, let alone very good. He couldn't hold Brian Johnson's jock.

If Utah is to improve, it's coming from the hands of someone not named Hayes or Wynn.

I'm not going to trash Wynn because I'm more than willing to admit that once he went out, Utah looked leaps and bounds worse. However, I still doubt that even a healthy Wynn can give Utah a really great season next season next year.

In the MWC, Wynn is a top 3 QB. In the PAC12, he is bottom third.

I am confident that Whitt will address the QB issue.

I wouldn't worry too much. The QB situation will take care of itself by virtue of being in the Pac12. At the most 2-3 years and Utah will be fine at QB.

Just like UCLA has been.

My point is, even in the Pac12 you can screw up your QB situation.

I think Utah's defense will be what determines how great next season will be. All Wynn will have to do is not lose games, and maybe, maybe pull out a dream season drive once or twice.

That being said, who cares? This year has been a lot of fun!

Are BYU fans still bitter at Ben Olsen for bolting to UCLA?

If so, they would do well to remember just how they acquired Riley Nelsen's services.

I see your point, sort of. Ben did dis BYU and chose UCLA after the mission, so technically he's not a castoff.

You might want to re-take your undergrad english classes, yes, all of them.

There was not bitterness from Scat, and none from me.
We were just discussing the nuances of Ben's departure from BYU.

Why don't you get out of my thread, and go back to the BYU to the Big 12 thread. TIA

Cry harder.

Seriously.

I honestly don't know what to think about Wynn. I thought he was pretty impressive as a freshman.

Last season he was pretty impressive early, but he started to suck later in the season. Then I found out he was hurt so that could be the reason he sucked.

This season he sucked early on, but got better with each game. There were rumors he was still hurt so that may be why he sucked. He was also in a new offense that he didn't get much practice with before the season started, so that also needs to be considered.

I am kind of leaning towards Wynn will be really good next season. He should have plenty of time to heal and practice and all of that, so he should start out strong next season.

There is also the very valid question of will Wynn ever be healthy? Or is he just injury prone?

Either way, Utah will be much better off at QB next season. Not only will Hays have a year under his belt, and Wynn will be back healthy, but the freshman (and redshirt) will be options.

However, like someone else said, no point worrying about it right now because things are pretty good at the moment. The Utes probably have the best defense in the Pac 12, and one of the best running games in the Pac 12. Even the haters have to admit it's pretty likely Utah wins out (and they have to pay me, lol).
