Utes 2011 Football Discussion

54-10...... Lol

It's the only thing that is pertinent to the discussion this year. If you want to bring up 1984 then so be it. It doesn't change the fact that it was 27 years ago. I guess as a Cubs fan I should be out cheering our 1908 WS victory now.

I find this hard to believe. Did he forget that we played BYU? That's gotta drop us quite a bit.

I wish I was as optimistic about the Arizona game as most the Ute fans in here. Considering how bad our offense is, if Foles gets Zona out to an early lead I think Utah is in trouble. I don't feel good about it, hope I'm wrong.

And Scat, please change your sig. 54-to-10 is EXTREMELY relevant until the next time Utah and BYU play. If BYU comes up to RES next year and beats Utah (a nice thought for you I'm sure, but it isn't gonna happen) and Ute fans are still clinging to the 54-to-10 game, then you have every right to complain about it.

That's the beautiful thing about such a heated rivalry. The winning team gets a full year to bask in the spoils of their victory, however as soon as it's kickoff time next year, that all goes away. Trying to equate it with 1984 and all of the Y fans that still bring that up is pretty pathetic and completely off the mark.

With that being said, BYU is going to get absolutely rolled in SLC next year. Riley Nelson won't be high-fiving refs (seriously, what kind of goofball **** was that?), he'll be asking them for a stretcher.

I'm sure a lot of U fans have already heard that one of the starting WR's for AU was a DeVonte Christopher's top receiver when he was a QB in high school. Not that it really has an affect on the game but does make me think, I wonder who the better receiver is (assuming DeVonte is fully back from his injury now).

I disagree. I like that sig. It just depends on how you choose to read it. He even got the color right. I say he keeps it until next year, just so we can all be reminded of that beautiful day in Provo, from not that long ago.

The real question is: Is DeVonte Christopher a better QB than John Hayes? You gotta wonder.

Nice win by Utah. This is the game left on the schedule I was sceptical about. UCLA will still be a tough game but at least Utah should get to a bowl game and I think they have a real shot at 8-4.

I said before the season I though they would get 6-8 wins and was hoping for 8-10.

The schedule is definitely lightening up for Utah but this was still a really nice win. Fowles is a 1st round draft pick IMO and Utah's D probably forced him into his worst statisical game of the year. He threw for over 300 yards but I believe that was his lowest completion % of the season and he threw just as many Ints as TDs. Make no mistake, that D is for real. That's huge considering how many returning contributors they'll have coming back next year.

Norm Chow and John Hays have both shown improvement for 2 weeks in a row. 3 more weeks like that and Utah can take an 8-and-4 record into what should be a pretty decent bowl game with quite a bit of momentum on their side. It's still a ways down the road, but if Utah can win their bowl game and finish with 9 wins, season 1 in the Pac 12 should be considered a success (especially considering all of the adversity Utah has faced in the way of injuries).

UCLA beats ASU. We have them at home, but I'm still a little nervous about this game now.

I'm hoping for freezing temps and a driving snow storm. Let UCLA be the first PAC school to deal with playing a conference game at that elevation, in mid-November, and in that type of weather. I was really concerned about the Zona game. I actually thought Utah would lose that one.

Now it's starting to feel like Utah can get enough out of Jon Hayes to win these remaining games. That's huge considering that we're in such good hands with John White and our defense. I think they beat the Bruins.

Foles worried me too, but the Ute defense stepped up. Zone dropped some passes early, but the whole defense was on the same page.

It's a tough one. ASU beats Utah, UCLA beats ASU, Arizona beats UCLA, Utah beats Arizona. Pick 'em.

It just shows that top to bottom, the Pac 12 is a tough conference. Oregon State was actually making a game of it pretty late against Stanford yesterday too.

Well Norm Chow looks to be improving. The offense went from the usual 4-6 different plays, to like 9-10 different plays. I even saw a flea flicker!

Good thing Duck didn't bet me on that Arizona game like he was saying he would. My prediction (and bets) that Utah would win out is starting to almost look like a given at this point.

Also, the Arizona announcers repeatedly called Utah's defense the best in the Pac 12.

The Utes are going to be scary good next year if they can keep a lot of these guys from entering the draft early.

I was thinking you weren't as confident anymore so you didn't bring it up on Friday. I was definitely surprised when I turned on the game last night near the end. On my TV, the scorebox was cut off for some reason so you could only see the second number of Utah's score. Took me about 10 in game minutes to even realize I wasn't watching a close game.

Good win for you guys on the road.

Lol, the scorebox was cut off on mine too. Probably karma because I was talking about how I usually watch the other team's Fox Sports feed. Just my luck, it wasn't available this time, and the KJZZ was just a poorly done retransmission of the Arizona broadcast.

I think it might have something to do with the fact that KJZZ was initially denied broadcast rights for that game and the PAC 12 appealed it. Part of the "ruling" probably included the Arizona Fox Sports feed not being available in this market or something.

So do you agree that Utah wins out now?

I don't know. Like I've said before the Pac 12 seems to be one of those leagues where the worst teams occasionally win games they shouldn't. Colorado could pull it off. UCLA and WSU are decent teams. I honestly hope you guys do though so that when SC comes to Salt Lake next year there can be even more buildup toward that game. That's one I'm definitely going to if I still live in Utah then.

That was a pretty terrible feed. KJZZHD my ###. Hopefully they win out and Wynn is never ever given the starting job again. I would rather we have one of our freshman coming in than Wynn.
