What's new

Conley's wife says goodbye

I hope he can get the hamstring worked out and has a second wind like CP3. When he was healthy this year he was very good and makes the team so much better. If he leaves we will miss his cerebral play.

I'd set the over under at 2 years 40M in total... my guess is we do something like 3/57M with the final year like 30% guaranteed. If he's mostly healthy any deal is gonna be good value... if he's mostly unhealthy any number is ****** value. Losing him at this moment really doesn't open up another cap resource or opportunity. The return on a sign and trade is likely to be something like 1 year of Josh Richardson or Kyle Kuzma on a slightly bloated deal.
I just think he will leave and we won't get anything back unless we heavily over-pay. Everyone needs to be prepared for the jazz to end up with a fairly significant goose-egg this summer.

I give Conley a $10M a year deal for two years. That’s my limit.

He will get more, but if any of us go to our employer and want full pay when we call out three months out of the year, things won’t go well.
You've never worked for the government and it shows.

I just don’t see a place that makes a lot of sense for him. I assume the market for him is around 20M a year. What team is giving him more than that... that is also a better basketball situation?

Dallas, NY, and Miami are the main cap space teams... which team is going more than that? Is that really a better situation?

These types of posts make me nervous. I loved Mike Conley this season. Yeah, the hamstrung end sucked but he made us better.

If we lose him hopefully we get back a big TPE.

Places I see as good Conley fits for both him and the other team:

Boston
Lakers
Miami
Dallas
Knicks
Philly
Indiana - if Brogdon is dealt elsewhere

Knicks Dallas and Miami are the only ones with space... Which one is using up their cap space on an older point guard? Two of those teams would for sure prefer younger guys. Miami likely has their sights higher.

Those other teams don’t matter because unless we want to do a sign and trade we can just tell them to **** off... and they will have to move on.

I don’t see Mike saying I’m going to move my family and take a paycut to go to Boston or Philly... maybe LA but even then those guys will have to clear enough room that they don’t hit the apron.

I just don’t see how the price gets higher than we should be willing to pay.

I would think the most likely scenario is that Mike wants to go somewhere that doesn't have cap space so we work out a sign and trade. In order to get something rather than nothing, we oblige.

I have read none of the thread besides the first post - he is probably just going to his summer home.

I could see him taking less to chase a ring.

Really? Mike's made a gazilliion dollars in the NBA and she has to do awkward IG posts that are thinly veiled jewelry Ads?

I guess she does it so she can say she "pitches in" during their next argument.

Maybe he takes the mini MLE from the Lakers but outside of that I don’t see those situations worth taking a huge paycut for. I don’t think Lakers clear enough salary to offer full MLE but maybe. I know we can all sit here and count his money but at the end of the day these dudes will want to get what’s fair... it’s partly respect for them... he just made an all star team... ain’t like he’s Marc Gasol.

Yes. Me too. Which is why I don't see him going to those other teams.
I could see a team like the Lakers clear some space, especially with Schroeder disappointing and if Conley could be had for cheap. I could also see the sixers moving Simmons for assets and signing Conley. Conley would be a great addition for them, and they could really fill in around Embiid and Conley. I could see him go to the nets as a backup, which would help them add another proven vet to bolster the bench. GS is retooling and could add him as a solid backup for Curry. Maybe even Atlanta to mentor young. If he is willing to take less money a lot more opens up. Hell even a return to the grizzlies wouldn't be crazy. Add some stability to an often frenetic lineup. Seeing him move in to what he might feel is a better situation is my bet as to where this goes.

LA I could see. I can’t see Dallas, New York, Brooklyn, Philly or Miami.

This is his last big payday. If he can get three times as much playing elsewhere, I say go for it.

If he gets a payday, how much more will that be over a couple years than what we offer? And how big is the drop off in potential legacy? Of course people always want more money, but he just became an all-star and his “legacy” cup has more potential (and need) to be filled than his “earnings” cup.
