Jazz Offseason Plan

Pretty sure the savings is more than that. Oni is paid 1,800,000 next year. I believe you can sign an undrafted rookie for 800K? So that would be 1,000,000 savings plus whatever the luxury tax savings would be from that. I'm not 100% on all that though, but yeah, even regardless of savings I would be for it. I just think the Jazz should reset their low level asset plays.
I was just basing it off of Hughes' contract and other guys we have had in recent years. Most of those guys are getting around $1.5. You could be right that we get a guy more around $1 million. Maybe we do.

The problem is, I’m not sure what choice you have. It has to happen this year or next year. If you have Donovan/Rudy on the roster. You’re going to be a good team. To be quite honest, I still think it’s up in the air whether Donovan actually wants Rudy on the team or believes it’s to his greater benefit, right or wrong. They may know what will please Mitchell, and that may be trading Rudy, and revamping things for him. That will include FO hires. I’m not sure what it looks like exactly, but everyone from Andy to Windhorst seems to say Smith really really really wants to keep him. (We all know my opinion) But Wade and Smith want Mitchell around for a long time.

Also, I agree I don’t think they are mutual ideas, and I think people like Tony are talking out both sides of their mouth on it, but it’s the reporting.
Tony was a known Niko hater…

Well, zero chance Clarkson gets traded. Don liked a tweet praising Clarkson.

Don is also praying an awful lot lately. About what, I do not know.
Oh my hell, every day he’s tweeting about God’s going to give him what he prayed for on Twitter.

3 untouchables because of Donovan’s relationship with them: Royce, JC, Forrest. So don’t bother including them in trades. I’d put Hughes here as wells bit. Basically Andy on Monday said Forrest is one of the guys who will for sure be back, part of it being Donovan’s relationship with him. I like Forrest, and I think he can be a viable backup guard so I’m happy to see him back, but just by what Andy said, I wouldn’t expect any moves involving anyone Donovan is close with. What a fun dance trying to keep a star happy.

If I had a trillion dollars, I still wouldn’t pay $90 million for Derrick Favors. Ryan Smith will do anything within reason to improve the team, but paying that much to keep Favors is a light year away from reason.
There is also an argument to seeing what you have in Udoka… independent of cost. If you are biting the bullet on that cost go ahead and see what you can get for Udoka.

If Oni can just get better at his best attribute, defense, and do it without fouling he has value. If he can do that and make more spotups he has consistent rotation value
I'm fine with keeping Oni. I'd bring in Darius Miller though to play the same role with less ifs... make Oni earn his spot. If Oni could be flipped for a second round pick then do it... save the money and give Miller a minimum deal.

Oni just looked so scared and uncomfortable most of the year... very disappointing... all the reports were how competitive he was and I kinda thought he'd be an irrational confidence type... very much the opposite.

I have shifted my optimism away from Oni and over to Hughes.

Hopefully Quin will play him and his defense isn't as bad as seems to be implied. I do think he'll get some run this year during the season, they do need to start developing him.

Meh. I think he's worth keeping but his G League stint was a little disappointing. He had some good pre-season games iirc. I'm not banking on either guy being a big contributor.

G-League was weird this year with the bubble thing and I'm pretty sure he was coming off a severe ankle injury as well. He definitely looks the part and he always showed confidence when he got the garbage time minutes.

this is all fair.

JC trades are kinda tough... but I wonder if we could do JC for Kuzma and #22. Actually adds a little salary but changes up the backcourt a bit... I'd be targeting Butler (if cleared) or Duarte as guys that can hopefully be ready to play in year 1. Maybe its a three teamer where we move Kuzma to another team... maybe to the Kings for Delon Wright?

I like JC a lot... but he's not a guy I trust to get 30+ minutes in the playoffs regularly... it would also be different if we had a different mix in the backcourt. I'd like him when Donovan is off the court... but I'd like to have a guy I felt complemented Donovan a bit better in the backcourt.

Do you think Bogey or JC has more value? Kuzma is a player I think the Jazz should target with either player. I'm not high on him, but the Jazz need to get a little younger.

I think it depends on the acquirer... in general I think Bojan has more value because he's a great shooting wing. Even with his higher price tag. The deals are a little tricky.

If you moved JC for Kuzma then you can pivot and flip Bojan elsewhere. I think if the rumored Turner+ Stuff to Charlotte for Hayward deal happens you could insert Bojan to Charlotte and take "stuff". Maybe its Lamb and Washington or Lamb and Aaron Holiday or some draft stuff with Lamb and an interesting young player.

Another deal I suggested was Bojan #30 to NO for Bledsoe and #10.

Miye dies on every screen and fouls too much.

But he’ll be back, baby!

Calling my shot!

Back: Doke, Hughes, Oni, Forrest (2-way)
Gone: Niang, Ersan, Thomas, Brantley, Morgan
In: draft pick, mini-mle, 2 second rounders/UFAs/guys from Australia/Israel/euroleague, and new 2 way guy (maybe three second rounders if we trade down into the second by moving Fav and 30)

Only other guys I could see gone are Mike and Favors.
The only two of the young bench guys that seem to have potential are Morgan, Brantley, Hughes, and Oni. Honestly, the entire roster 8-15 is so hard to get a read on because they barely get PT, it drove me crazy all season that Quin wouldn't play them just to develop them a bit. He did it with Royce and Ingles, I have no clue why he wasn't doing it with anyone else this year.

They desperately need an athletic PF with size - pick one of Morgan or Brantley and actually play them. They need an athletic wing - pick one of Oni or Hughes. Keep them with Doke, see if they can actually be rotation players, ditch the rest. They have plenty of shooters, don't spend time on any of them. I'd go with Morgan, Oni, and Doke, and then give them real minutes to see if they can be legit.

It's a reason I'd rather let Conley walk and trade Bogie - without some major moves, this isn't a title team. It has fatal flaws. And there are no young trade pieces, like Bradley was. Sure would be nice if we had a young prospect to throw in to a trade, wouldn't it? Retool, develop, aim for a title on Mitchell's timeline.

I would say JC has more value, but that's all the more reason to trade Bogie. I'm so hesitant to trade Clarkson because he just has a more important skill set than Bogie does. And Bogie is one dimensional and aging, and is kind of redundant. I for sure wouldn't trade Clarkson for Kuzma, not just because I think that's terrible value, but then it seems like he and Bogie would have a lot of overlap. I'd be open to Bogie for Kuzma/22.

JC has less value, but he's easier to trade due to his contract size.

Favors is the only one likely gone.

How does Bogey for Kuzma/22 work cap wise?
