Game Thread Oct 06, 2021 06:30PM MT: Jazz at Mavericks (Preseason)

Added to Calendar: 10-06-21

I don't think the Jazz are looking to move Ingles off the ball, during the scrimmage he was handling the ball a ton. I think that's more just what Locke thinks they should do. He's too good of a playmaker to take the ball out of his hands. I expect Gay to get all of the backup 4 minutes.

Yeah, Ingles is the only one big enough to pass the ball to Rudy over the defense.

Right now, Butler is the 3rd-string PG behind Conley and Ingles (understanding that Mitchell will play with the ball in his hands). However, he might take minutes from Oni as the 3rd-string SG depending on matchups. Both Butler and Hughes might get ahead of Oni in the rotation. You'd expect Butler to play if one of the guards ahead of him in the rotation is out for some reason.

Gobert / Whiteside / Azubuike
Royce / Gay / Paschall
Bojan / Hughes
Mitchell / Clarkson / Oni
Conley / Ingles / Butler

So all y’all idiots are telling me that even if Butler is really good this year, Quin says too bad hes tenth, can’t play oh well. Quin will figure it out if he really does make the team better

Butler reminds me of Brandon Roy a bit. Roy was bigger more physical, but other then that, they seem to share a similar play style.
Oh no, you went there, didn't you?

Not really comforted by the comparison after Tim McMahon was mumbling something on the Spence Checketts show the other day about many teams not confident that Butler's knees will even make it to a second NBA contract.

Wow, Butler looks amazing. The game seems slowed down for him. Thurl and Boler used the word beautiful over and over to describe his game.

damn watching butler highlights right now and man does he look SOLID. He has that stop and go and change of gears ability. Thats massive, hes going to be really damn good.

-Quin needs to abandon the 9 man rotation. Butler needs consistent minutes to develop.
- Clarkson looked better in the small ball switching defense than I expected. I don't think Conley or Mitchell can play in those lineups, so that is key.
- Oni was so bad offensively, but him and Royce were so good in the switching defense.

The Mavs announcers likened him to Isiah Thomas and Chris Paul. Take that with a grain of salt but that’s pretty high marks for his second career game.

Could someone help me understand Butler's contract details? I'm pretty sure we have him on a 2 year deal, but what happens after that? Will he be restricted? Can we go over the cap to keep him? Will not picking him up in the first round end up costing us?

Just watched the highlights and it seems like we have a steal in Butler. He's completely in control out there, confident, and doesn't seem to be afraid of the moment. Has great court vision as well.

I'm excited about him.

Haha I know. I didn’t mean to go there, he’s who came to mind just watching him

Didn’t they both agree he was the most entertaining player to watch in the game? Also was it Anthony that compared him to Thomas, interesting since he played against him.

Super encouraging game. They play their starters and we come out without ours and only lose by 10. Butler was fantastic (minus the threes) and Teague showed he deserves some more minutes so we can see if he deserves a spot.

Fitts (who the heck is he?) was popping threes; if he keeps it up that second 2-way could well go to him since James got dumped.

He shot 3-7 from three that’s really good. 42%
