Forrest is good at finding the play as it develops and being able to execute the read. The problem is that he’s holding the ball until something develops. Since he can’t and won’t shoot, things are at a standstill for a long period of time and if something happens it’s more him being able to push something through a release valve. That’s also not the way we play.

Tl;dr he pounds the air out of the ball more than any player since Jacque Vaughn.

Half the time what happens is a turnover. If he isn’t on ball then his guy can mess up all the other actions by ignoring him. He’s one of the worst choices we could make for the real role we have for him.

When you give someone that much time, you’ll find good things by volume. By time I mean time dominating a possession, not playing time. Not too dissimilar to a guy being a high-volume scorer on a bad team. Put him in as a regular cog and ask yourself if it works.

So House could be the 10-15 minute guy we’re looking for. Not because he’s an amazing defender, but simply being okay really shines with us. Royce has carved out a lot for himself here being an okay defender. If you have House in the floor with other rotation guys, he’s able to do all those Royce things you like and is a willing shooter. Perhaps Quin is more willing to play him than he would a Shaq or a Dunn.

Hughes can take and make the corner three… his defense is also good. He’s got a knack for taking charges.

Forrest is not good. I’m sorry. His “playmaking” is not a thing… he passes and dribbles a lot. Hughes can handle enough to help Ingles and JC… plus they have Gay. Let Hughes, House, Butler hang in the corner and play off ball… they are all likely better options than Trent.
his playmaking is ok... when he goes downhill or off a pick n roll he generally makes the good decision. it just got shadowed by the fact he can't shoot so opponents sag off on him, making it much more difficult for him to create space with dribble penetration. simmons and draymond have similar issues when opponents don't respect their shots. so you really have to be extreme strong in other aspects of your game to make up for your lack of shooting, which unfortunately hasn't been the case for Forrest.

I agree that hughes has good tools to be a good defender, but as of now he's way better in a zone than man-to-man, which is why he looked good tonight but was completely lost on the floor defensively in his past outings.

I don’t know what to make of Hughes but hopefully Toronto would be interested in picking him up in a package for Yuta.

It was more than being homers and getting too hyped. The one guys was simply making sounds instead of words many times throughout. He would do a native american war cry. Then simply scream like a girl. There was a point where he simply kept saying the word "buckets" over and over in different tones and volume level. It was incredibly over the top and ridiculous beyond any possible description I could type.
As far as knowing basketball.... Dude was saying that van fleet in the 3rd was the most impressive 3rd quarter he had seen from any player from any team in nba history. Then his co announcer brings up how siakim scored more in a quarter before. Lol a dude currently playing and for the same team had a better quarter and dude was acting like van fleet played better than any player in history.
It was horrendous.
Lol. Sounds insane. And all that excitement because they clawed back from being down 17 to a G league team. Lmao.

Oh and Thompson and his 37 point 3rd quarter say hey.

I’d really push to sign him to a 1+1 deal with the second year as a team option. He’s a 4M type nba wing… I’m sorry he had sex but I honestly think he’s as good as you can get on the buyout/waived guys market. Just one night but he was doing exactly what I’d expect. Seems to have kept himself in good shape and was playing hard. Even if he is just a 10 minute guy that can give Royce the night off here and there he has value.

He’s been good in the preseason and summer league… you can tell he worked on it. Took several charges in preseason and summer league. Man is generally easier to play than a zone… just requires you to work a bit more.

Straight man to man sure, switching the way we do is tough to learn and coordinate correctly though. Easy to get lost on the switch.

Zone requires just as much movement and switching if not more. I think it is much more about learning nba defense as a rookie than going from zone to man. We also don’t switch nearly as much as other teams. Honestly the closing out to the three point line and funneling to the middle is similar to what you’d do in a zone.

First off, the first 30 minutes of the game was a told you so moment for our bench. Its always a treat to watch guys who don't get a chance that light it up.

Butler needs more minutes to progress, no question. His flashes were fantastic. But lots of terrible mistakes.

Hughes deserves blow. No question.

Paschall has to be an option in the playoffs.

The bottom 9 players on the roster rarely see the court so they ran out of gas. Now who's fault would that be?

And for those defending quin because the bench sucks... they showed what they can do given an opportunity. Give them blow!!!
