Trade deadline discussion

Really interesting interview on Checketts show this afternoon with Tony Jones

-Said he 100% think's the Jazz will make a trade to replace Joe's spot in the rotation and that they have interest in Josh Richardson.
-Not exactly sure what he meant by this but said that another downside to losing Joe is that they lose one of the only guys in the Lockeroom that could look Donovan Mitchell in the eye and tell him no.
-The Jazz still believe that they can win a championship if healthy and are all in, so they won't hesitate to trade draft picks.
- If Jerami Grant is on the table for Joe's salary and two first round picks then he thinks it's a no brainer to make that move.
-The front office is starting to take on the personality of Danny Ainge and some of the names that are popping up that the Jazz are interested in are different from the type of guys that Dennis Lindsey went after.
-Joe's contract is the main thing being shopped but doesn't think they would hesitate to include another rotation player in a deal if they thought it could make the team better.
-There's a guy that a source told him Ainge is going after (Tony wouldn't reveal the name on air but said he'd text it to Spence) that is totally a Danny Ainge guy and someone that no front office in Jazz history before this one would've tried to get in a Jazz jersey. Any guesses who that could be?

Adds like 16M in salary for next year and I think we are a repeater next year... so you need to be able to dump Bogey or that move would add like $80M or some **** to our already bloated payroll. Maybe you do it and figure it out later but they also likely want a pick in that deal. Maybe that is why Boston would consider it I guess.
If we are "all in" for this year, we worry about next year's money in the summer when Mike, Bojan, and Richardson are all expirings.

The defense acquired in this trade for Clarkson could be major. We could start Smart get to slide two current NBA starters (Royce and Richardson) to the bench. After a few minutes, we stagger Mike and Smart for the rest of the game until crunch time.

That would be one Sir Marcus Morris of Kansas.

I listened in too... great summation. Makes it seem as though we already kind of have a deal for Richardson ready if nothing else comes up. He wouldn't speculate on JC but I get the feeling he was kinda like nah.... that ain't happening.

I am 80% I know who the name is that he wouldn't mention... based on his tone etc. I think it is Christian Wood. He said he wasn't for sure on the source and if it was true but that is my guess. I believe Boston liked him in the past.

Thanks for sharing - this is really insightful. Joe as one of the only guys that stands up to Donny is not surprising but really interesting. And no question that Ainge will run this very different then it has ever been run. The Jazz culture and philosophy has been very consistent with various GM's and various coaches and that will change. You can already see the shift with Ainge and Smith. I miss the Millers.

Deadline is getting closer … in need of any teams right now to kick things off and start the dominos ..

I like Richardson but really not wanting Smart due to his 5 year contract and his inconsistency. He has had a few diva moments too. Do we want to pay our backup PG 14 million dollars a year for the next 5 years. I would rather play Forrest or Butler than pay Smart that type of money. I think people are overrating Smart a little. The Jazz need an athletic wing player in the worse way.

Man, if it’s Morris then I guess I was closer than I thought.
He’s kinda what we need… he crosses the line more than I’d like but you need an *******.., he’s got that for days. If he’d hate it here then I’d pass. Danny knows him well so at least there’s that.

He can say what he wants about Utah but…. Lawrence, Kansas. Lawrence, Kansas.

He's got a pretty big deal for an inconsistent 32 year old

He makes a little more than Clarkson money. His offense is a little hit and miss but generally a lot more consistent than Jordan and his defense is really solid. Plus he's an *******. You need one of those.

He has struggled this year... I wonder what kind of offer they would take. In general if you deal with the clips they win the deal but they did screw up the Bledsoe deal. If it was Ingles or JC for him straight up.... I'm all over it... Draft capital? Bogey? Royce? Well then let's think on it.
