Trade deadline discussion

It’s terrible value when you realize they traded Gary Trent Jr and 2 firsts for both of the guys they just traded. I guess if this deal isn’t that bad the previous two deals were absolutely terrible - fireable offenses.
This is the DL death by a thousand cuts model... all three trades were kinda bad... lose 25% value here, 25% value in another trade, and all of a sudden you add it up and are like.... WTF?

I would have opted to move CJ instead, but I'm guessing him and Dame are tight. It's not great.... either they love Keon or other teams really kinda missed the boat.

What a killer deal by LAC. Seriously.
Bledsoe alone was addition by subtraction. I wonder if they have a follow up move coming. I also wonder if they know Kawhi and PG are coming back or if they are just cool re-signing RoCo to add to them next year.

I certainly wouldn't be surprised if they did go on to blow it up either. CJ in particular there's been enough smoke around.

The 2 1sts for Covington was probably an overpay from the start.

I was listening to Chad Ford's podcast the other day and Jake Fisher was his guest and he said he's been told it's not a coincidence that guys like Joe and Bogey have been in trade rumors and Donovan's best friend Royce O'Neale hasn't been in any. I'm sure it's also not a coincidence that we traded for Eric Paschall, who was one of Donovan's best friends growing up. Yet we had no problem getting rid of Neto even though he was Rudy's best friend on the team.

If this is the situation, it makes a lot more sense on Ainge being brought in to sort out this mess.

They are in such a good spot right now. This makes them way better today and way better next season regardless of if they resign Roco or not. It's a win on all fronts for them. Some might say Powell is a negative deal when that contract reaches the later stages....but it's definitely not a negative deal for the next 3 or so years they have left when their window is open with Kawhi and PG. Masterpiece by their FO.

I mean....I guess they lost Keon Johnson, but a player drafted in the 20's has a <50% of making the rotation and they prefer Boston Jr. anyways. Keon would have just rotted there (he's been pretty bad in the G-League too FWIW).

You have to think the Jazz could have had this package themselves. Keon+a second is nothing.

NO said to want CJ/Powell/Gordon.... do they turn their attention to JC.

I really think this means CJ is not getting moved. This feels like getting some stuff and clearing some room and playing time for Simons

Donovan likes JC too much.

What someone made sense. JC/Royce were never in trade rumors but everyone else was. Why is that? Donovan Mitchell is pulling the string behind the scenes and leaking who he wants traded.

I mean you know we wouldn't want to take on the extra salary this year... that was a big part of Portland's motivation. I do agree... we could have done this.

Powell's deal is not negative... just risky because of length. He could stay healthy and productive the whole time and it is just fine. It's just more than you'd want to pay for a third guard but he's a really good third guard. I'd have tried to move CJ instead personally.

If they would have swapped Powell for JC I'd have driven to Portland to pick Norman up.
