What's new

Jazz acquire NAW and Juancho Hernangomez for Ingles, Hughes, and two 2nd round picks.

No its not. The two players we got in the trade are better than injured ingles and Hughes. We improved the team AND saved money. Not sure why that is a bad thing but whatever. This is just one of those annual times of year were the same ol folks bitch about everything the jazz did or didn't do. I will happen after free agency in the summer and after the draft as well. Like clockwork.
There is a chance that NAW is worse than having an empty roster spot. It’s fine… it’s a stab in the dark though.

Portland really did not want him and his salary for next year. NO forced him into the trade. Zach Lowe and Bobby marks talked about it. Portland made NO waive the physical on CJ so they could speed the deal up to get off of NAW. This is EXTREMELY RARE per Bobby. Especially with a player that is owed 100M like CJ. They didn’t want the transaction to get slowed down and be stuck with NAW.

Not saying he can’t be a player but a couple teams really wanted no part of him. So we stepped in and saved some money… I am very dubious of the reports about how we will play him and they love him yada yada yada. Zach even said Wuin will have a very hard time with how he plays.

So I’m not bitching about what they did. I am bitching that their stated claims for why they did what the did are dubious at best… if y’all wanna drink the kool aid go ahead. I’m fine with what we did… we don’t have a whole lot to do much else. I just hope the play Forrest house and JB rather than stoking Ainge’s ego by throwing NAW out there. I like how we are playing right now and hopefully that doesn’t get disrupted. Mothball NAW until next year… let him see how we play and hopefully he helps next year.

The jury's out on NAW at this point. He needs a strong development season, but he's someone who has shown he can get in the lane and make plays. It took Lonzo Ball until his 4th year to look like a dependable starting-level guard. NAW is somewhere in that growth curve. He should look better in the Jazz's system than he did in NOLA. The Pels have been a **** show for the past two seasons.

Yes, I am going to believe the **** franchise that is Portland was so concerned about receiving NAW’s 5M salary for next year but is completely fine with taking Bledsoe and his massive contract.

Please tell me what players New Orleans has drafted that turned out any good. They are a **** franchise too. No player is setup to succeed there. Sometimes a change of scenery is what someone needs. He’s 23 and has a ton of talent. He was the 17th pick in the draft for a reason.

This is last season. Good speed/burst. Some good takes to the rim. Active on the glass. Some forced passes for TOs. Shooting improves later in the game (looks like 3/8 from 3pt). The game itself, however, is chaotic. There are few, if any, set plays, the pace is frenetic and guys are just jacking up shots.

Ummmm Herb Jones is awesome but cool.

He’s worth a shot but he’s completely theoretical right now. NO is a **** show but that isn’t the only reason he isn’t good. Putting him in the rotation immediately is my only issue. Forrest and JB are more deserving of time… house too.

His stats as a starter are actually pretty good.

17.3 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 2.9 APG, 1.1 SPG, 42.2% from field and 35% from 3 in 33 games as a starter in 32.1 MPG.

My god people we gave up someone who wasn’t gonna play for us this season or next. He’s 23 and was the 17th overall pick in the 2019 draft. Stop acting like we gave up two first round picks for him.

One player lol. How’s their lottery pick Kira Lewis doing? Is he even playing? Do they put him in spots to succeed or grow?

I mean he’s out for the year but yeah… Ingram and Ball both had good development leaps there. Hart too. NAW has been given a **** ton of opportunity to be solid and he’s been atrocious… changing zip codes will help but you can’t polish a turd. He’s a project and he’s being sold as a rotation piece… I love how if you don’t sniff the franchises ******* you are a whiny bitch. Go look at his numbers and watch his full game highlights rather than his sizzle reels. It ain’t just about system and organization.

Are we starting him? If his starting numbers are good then his bench numbers must be amazing because his overall numbers are ****ing garbage.

Again… he’s a project… treat him like one … that’s all I’m ****ing saying.

You really said this part in response to me? Lol. I have been just as critical of the front office as you have been. DL ****ed up around the edges, his cap guy ****ing sucks and we have burned picks to get out of **** situation he put us in.

I like picking up NAW. Gaining a potential asset for someone we all thought was going to be salary dumped anyway is not bad in my opinion. Especially with how empty our asset cupboard is at the moment. We haven’t even seen the rotation yet or seen how he has played for us. I love Butler a lot like you do and it’s criminal he doesn’t play more but give the guy a chance first.

Getting exited for the Hernangomez press conference because I’m ready to move on to something else. But we didn’t even get the right Property Brother. We needed to get the one that HH says is sexy AF.

I’m not saying he’s going to come in and contribute 25 MPG a night but damn we didn’t give up anything for him it’s a good flier to take.

Have we had a guy with three names before? Besides Enes Kanter Freedom? (I know that was after he left but I just wanted to say Enes Kanter Freedom.) And John Lucas III doesn't count.

And have we had a longer name than Huancho Hernangomez?

Listened to Zach Lowe's latest podcast with Bobby Marks as his guest.

-Lowe likes the Jazz taking a flier on NAW. Thinks there's a better basketball player in there somewhere than what he's shown so far in his NBA career. said there's a chance he never harnesses all of his talent and gets his decision making under control but if he does, he could eventually be a good rotation player.
-Says he has good size, length and instincts defensively...explosion and scoring ability offensively.
-Says the Jazz needed someone to come in and help immediately and that guy likely isn't NAW. He thought they'd get a player they KNOW they can trust for 20 minutes a game.
-He think's Quin is going to hate him because of his poor shot selection decision making.
-Bobby Marks said Grant was never realistic and that big wings just weren't there for what the Jazz were offering. Said the Jazz definitely looked around the league for bigger names than NAW but couldn't get anything done.

A few questions ..

So where does Joe have the operation and is the rehab now done in Portland facility?

Is he allowed to stay in Utah and be around the team or does that require a buyout from Portland ?

I'm a little surprised we're getting so hung up on the PR aspect surrounding this trade. No matter what Tony Jones or Quin Snyder or anyone else may have said, everyone can easily enough see what this trade for what it is: an attempt to save some money and at least recoup a flier because Joe's contract didn't prove to be useful for anything else that would have helped the team in an overall sense. I don't think even Elizah is saying that NAW should just automatically be plugged into the rotation.

The PR is just standard procedure for new acquisitions, like when Brad Stevens effused about Bol Bol a couple of weeks before he cut him loose.
