Mavs only 1.5 games behind the Jazz for 4th. Only one game ahead of the Nuggets. Only 23 games left to establish seeding.
Both teams 6-1 in last 7.
It has been a season of streak busting for the Mavs, having stopped 5 different win streaks of 5+ wins. Now they try to break a different streak, a 10 game losing streak in Utah, the games decided by 10 pt avg.
Mavs have Jazz 3x. They have to win the series if theyre going to take that seed.
Jazz are HEAVILY favored in Vegas.
Mavs are 3-8 against them in the Luka era. Mavs have not won in SLC since August 2020 and are 1-6 in SLC since Luka entered the league.

I know Luka wants to take Gobert off the ball but they need a better plan. If Gobert is iso on Luka then you give your other guys the ball some and make them scramble. If Gobert drops back to cover the basket then Luka or someone is open. If Gobert sticks to Luka outside then the other guys take it to the hoop. Iso ball won't win games like that.

I'm watching the last 3 minutes. While they let Gobert get away with Murder against Doncic, I don't like this iso play trying to take Gobert to the rim. It seems like they want Luka to go one on one with Gobert and it's working for them in the last two possessions.
No ball movement, just Luka going iso, while the Jazz have good ball movement. I didn't watch much, but didn't like what I saw.
Can we talk about Gobert being allowed to assault people in the paint and not a single whistle lol? There were at least 4 blatant fouls in the 4th.

But having said that Luka was the culprit down the stretch. he took things personal vs Gobert. Didn't bother to move the ball on a few possessions and then if he didn't get a call, he would spend more time complaining than hustling back on defense.
By now he should realize when you play in Utah especially late in games your not going to get many calls. You need to fight through it and keep battling.

That's why I think Brunson needs more time running the offense in those situations because Luka tends to lose his head and spend the entire crunch time arguing with the refs.
But when push comes to shove, Kleber and DFS are going to let you down when you need them to carry weight. I hope I'm wrong, but Jazz are a likely first round matchup.

Sucks to lose a game when Bertans, Dinwiddie and Powell get a combined 59 points. I doubt they get that many points total again this season (mainly Powell).
Probably the most frustrating game of the season for us. Big positive is that Spencer and Bertans both balled out. Trade is looking good for us. On to Golden State.

Man I REALLY don’t like this playoff matchup for us in the first round. They take away a lot of what we do and while Mitchell played great it wasn’t even him who beat us late in this game…they also killed us on Christmas…
Problem of Jazz is that they are the type of team that we suck at handling They have a elite Big that can limit Luka, forcing him to rely on Step back three as first option Their three point shooting is one of the best in the league. Every game is a three point contest and they have Gobert to bail them out from time to time when their three is not falling. The margin of error is way too thin against them
It was brutal to watch us force feed Luka over and over again with a switch on Gobert only to have Luka get owned like every time.
He’s a 3* time DPOY and absolutely owned Luka when he purposely switched against him late in this game. We are not going to get those calls now or in the playoffs. We gotta adjust and we didn’t….
Gobert got to them. A few blocks and no one seemed to want to drive that or dribbled back out.
