headband ban stands

IIRC, Malone had to justify wearing the wristbands to Sloan. He told Jerry that the wristbands kept the sweat away from his hands and gave him a better handle on the ball. Sloan conceded. But the team philosophy has always been that all team members will wear the same uniform, down to the shoes and socks. I remember when Ostertag wanted to wear black shoes and had the team put it to a vote, but Stockton/Malone overrode it because they didn't want to wear black shoes.

Nah, you don't say. Brilliant analysis there. But the rationale behind allowing wristbands and not allowing headbands totally lacks any sort of logical consistency.

There is a difference in visibility and utility between headbands and wristbands.

Why stop with headbands?

They should ban tattoos, wristbands, wedding bands, and anything that makes a player stand out.
Why not shave all their hair on their heads legs and chest too.

First it's headbands, then it's players wanting to play in the nude! We cannot lose order.

New uniforms of the Utah Jazz.

You may be on to something here. I cannot imagine alot of teams driving in on the Jazz if you have the bigs naked. Keep teams on the three point line and solve last years rebounding woes all at once.

IIRC, Sloan said that the main reason he didn't want headbands was that too often, the player wearing one was adjusting it and was distracted by it.

The visibility part I understand, though I don't think it's a big deal at all, but the utility of headband is the same as a wristband...it absorbs sweat.

The eyebrows/ridges direct sweat away from the eyes, the hands have no such construction.

They definitely aren't the cure all, especially if you sweat a lot. I know even in my crappy basketball class (aka the PE class you could take and just play basketball) once I bought a headband it helped a lot (before that I was just rubbing my face on shirt constantly), even though I think they look goofy as hell. But we tolerate many goofy looking things for the sake of utility, in both basketball and in life.

As we see prominently displayed here by Pau Gasol:

No way, dude. It's hopper and/or ADD trash.

I think they make players look goofy. More like they're going to play at Rucker Park as opposed to a professional league. Did you ever seen Kobe, Jordan, Magic, Stockton, or Malone wearing rediculous headbands? Makes them look like they should be playing in the Busch leagues.

Paul Pierce and Lebron James have been pretty good. In addition to Rip Hamilton and 'Sheed when they were good.

you don't get involved in the act of sweating much do you? Or you live up to your name, One Brow and have one mean looking Uni Brow. Eyebrows aren't going to keep sweat from getting in your eyes.
