Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

I don't think the bolded is true. I don't think we'd value Grimes over that pick unprotected. Its worth more individually than Grimes and it also has the benefit of creating an issue for future trades that would hamstring the Knicks and benefit us. It might honestly be near the top of the list as far as assets I'd want. I think Quickley and Toppin might be more valuable as players to us. Grimes being mentioned by name might mean he's a sticking point from NY's side. It might be a ploy to allow them to save some face.

We’ll see, good chance there’s protections on 2029 just like the MIN pick. That removes a lot of risk from NYK but also removes value for UTA. I think unprotected opens up a can of worms where it might be more than just Grimes you don’t receive.

But 23/25/27 unprotected doesn't open up that can of worms? Any unprotected pick has a lot of risk... that's what makes them premium assets. Make it top 5 protected then like the Minny pick. I'm also cool not receiving Grimes and/or one of the other picks they own. Those types of picks are much easier to get and we have plenty of trade fodder to get those.

Again... if I am Ainge the priority is as many unprotected picks as possible.

It's not the same can of worms. 23/25/27 are not as uncertain as 2029.

Here is a dumb question: The Pacers had to waive four players for salary cap purposes in the Ayton offer sheet. Two were former Jazzmen. Can they unwaive them now or are they subject to being claimed by any team? If the Jazz are tanking, these might be four great tank commanders.

I'm not as ballsy as Ainge so I would probably concede some picks in favors of pick swaps in 2027/2029 and just take the Knicks 23/25 pick along with their 1st from other teams.

Bet that you going to be better than the Knicks in 5-7 years.

Anyone know (capable of finding out) how contract negotiations have gone between Leon Rose and Ainge in the past? Or whether Ainge/Zanik have any kind of relationships with World Wide Wes?

Utah holds the leverage IMO.

Plus CAA wants Donovan to look good. He isnt going to look good on a tanking team even if he puts up great stats (which is the best case scenario, he might see his efficiency drop off a cliff). He could easily lose out on an all-star appearance for his career if he stays in Utah.

The CAA/Knicks tie allows this to have added need for the Knicks FO. Not only do they want Donovan for themselves, they also want to actively get Donovan out of Utah. Us keeping Donovan increases the pressure.

It’s the same can. 27 ain’t much different than 29 and all unprotected picks have catastrophic failure potential. You’re being weird on where you think they would get concerned.

What is the Knicks interest in getting Donovan out of Utah?
