Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

I just don't understand where the Knicks are going to find minutes for all of these guards. I don't care if it's Grimes or Quickley coming back, the Knicks can choose which they want to send as far as I'm concerned.
yeah i love Grimes game but it's a wings league. enough with obsession over all those guards

If you believe 27 and 29 present the same uncertainty, I have to agree to disagree. Almost everyone in the NYK trade value thread had 29 > 27, and it's because of the greater uncertainty about what that pick may be and the potential for it to be very good. There is definitely uncertainty grows greater the more distant the pick is, pretty simple concept. If you don't believe that, I don't really know what to tell you. And back to the original point, a trade still has to be done. Is a trade possible without 27 and 29? Gets more difficult to do that. I'm not sure about a trade without both, but there's certainly a trade without 29 and I think that's the one that gets done.
My point is they aren’t much different and it’s weird to say they will do everything but not that thing? Why? Because you said so… cool.

3 weeks ago my friend working for a basket organization in France told me Don will ened at Knicks. Let's see but it seems that he was right. What concern me is that he say that Fournier will be moved.... not sure it's a good acquisition for the Jazz...he is not bad but not good enough for a good team and not bad enough for a tank team....

If Fournier is French, that means he can cook. The Jazz can put him to work in their cafeteria rather than have him play.

I'm fine with taking out Quickley or McBride if that gets it done. I'm cool with 6 picks + Obi/Grimes
This… grimes is a nice player/prospect… they can pick Quickley or Grimes to keep and we move forward if that is indeed the package. The picks were the main motivation. Any of the players that end up being good are a bonus. Summer league production can be a good indicator of a guy taking a step forward but there have been plenty of second and third year guys that look great in summer league and still suck.

How many players can the Jazz take even back?

After the Gobert trade, they have 13 guys under contract.

Conley, Beverley, JB
Mitchell, Clarkson, Beasley, NAW
Bogdanovic, Bolmaro
Vanderbilt, Gay
Kessler, Azibuke

If they trade Mitchell for Toppin, Grimes, Quickley and Fournier they’ll have 16 players under guaranteed contracts. Can they even take back more at this point and then make moves around the margins, or do they have to cap it at 15 until training camp?

Is there any possibility someone like the Thunder swoop in and say "Hey, we will do that package for SGA instead, but make it slighlty cheaper than Don"
Maybe not that one this summer but certainly I think Beal and Lillard will do the PG mutually agree to move on thing at some point in the next 12 months. Them re-signing was always about the dollars not the loyalty… now they can get dollars and go where they want.

I just don’t think you string this out too long. This isn’t like Morey and Harden… Knicks are willing to pay a steep price… trying to grab every single penny might prove foolish if you lose the whole deal.

I think you can have like 20 prior to cut date. It’s not an issue… they can always waive a few guys if need be.

Could Orlando be a dark horse team for Mitchell?

They have all of their picks plus Chicago’s 2023 1st and Denver’s 2025 1st.

A deal around Jalen Suggs + salary filler + picks wouldn’t be bad at all.

“You can take out one of Grimes or Quickley, but we will need all of your seconds. All of them.”

Jonathan Isaac.

I want Toppin in the deal for Mitchell. I am honestly cool with this being the deal:

Toppin + Grimes + McBride + Rose + 23/25/27/29 1sts, 26/28 pick swaps and 2 of the other 4 1sts they have.

Maybe they want to keep Grimes and insist on sending Fournier instead of Rose.

Looking at the deal from Minnesota, I’d start with that and then hold out for better value across the board.

23/25/27 picks unprotected
29 pick (top 5 protected)
23 pick from Dallas (top 10 protected)
26/28 pick swaps
Quickley, Grimes and Toppin (plus Fournier for salary matching purposes)

That’s one extra draft pick, one extra pick swap and better value on the 3 players coming back
Quickley, Grimes & Toppin > Bolmaro, Kessler & Vanderbilt

I like the original deal, but I don’t care that much about the players coming back… I say NY can swap out any player they want besides grimes for another FRP and we got a deal. They can even swap out multiple players for multiple FRP besides Grimes.

I mean, I had plenty of reasons why including the thing that differentiates the two. But sure, because I said so. We can throw out the entire conversation because "I said so".
