I like team E a little better I think but its close. I dont think Stockton and Gobert are a good pair on offense. He has to be your pick and roll guy but I think Stocktons bullet passes, bounce passes, no look passes and so on would be turnovers a lot. I am sure he is good enough to adjust to a lot more lob passes but that takes away from his greatness to be paired with a guy with bad hands like that. Also AK has no place in a competition of all time greats but reality is only ~8 guys play most the minutes in a playoff series. I guess smart isnt far off either from AK in that regards especially at the 3. Maybe its even there.

Rodman is so great at what he does but he is hard to pair in these due to his offense limitations.

Larry Bird probably puts it over the edge for me in a close one.

Not starting McHale and Bird together? That is a mistake imo.

Yeah but if he used Gobert the way they used Eaton, and fed McHale and Bird, that would be devastating. Let Gobert get the occasional lob, and feed the other prime scorers. I see Bird and McHale as Stock's primary roll targets. Imagine the effectiveness of Bird being fed by Stockton. That is unstoppable.

Another thing to think about is that Bird is an exceptional passer in his own right. A primary play-maker on the wing, and among the best shooters of all-time, probably top 3 among shooter/scorers. He would play a high-low game with Gobert and get him the lob for plenty of dunks. Other than some soft spots on the bench E is a scary front line. All-world defender anchoring some of the best 2-way players in the game, along with shooting and scoring with the best playmaker of all-time. That is a tough out.

Rodman is exactly why they needed to start McHale. McHale was crafty and tough to contain. He and Bird played off each other so well. And McHale was no slouch on defense.

I can see AK being effective in exactly the role he is in here, as a 7th or 8th man in the rotation. At his best he was one of the top 3 defenders in the league and could fill the stat sheet. As a complementary piece that is what is needed.

I see E taking this one.

I like both teams. Think this is one of the best matchups in the competition so far. Could see either team advancing tbh.

Not going to argue with you here, but will point out that Kevin McHale did come off the bench most of his career with Boston.
Eh it was about half. Their most dominant years he was a starter most of the time. And they were always more effective with him and Bird on the floor together. Just saying that in a competition like this he would be better starting.

I legit beat him at 3 positions maybe 4 depending on what you think about Durant vs Bird. This being this close is a joke. Oh wait he has Stockton and Gobert so that means he wins by default.

Russell and Rodman are not really offensive threats, so I feel like either Gobert or Eaton would be more than capable of defending both of them. That leaves Bosh or McHale free to roam around and help outside.

As for offense, we have 3 players who can shoot whatever they want whenever they want. And the chemistry between 2 of the greatest facilitators the game has ever seen, in Bird and Stockton, would just be amazing.
