Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

How do you know they were "inches from a deal." Clearly they were not or the deal would have happened. They were never going ro carry 18 million on Hield next year. The Jazz knew this which is why they blew up the THT for Turner deal. The Jazz made it so they were the only team that could give good players rhat were also expirings for the pick.

You could get mad that the Jazz got "took" in that they thought the picks were on the table enough to make the THT deal, but those picks were never going to happen.

I think that the Lakers think they will get Irving on a discount. At this point in his career I think that James would rather lose with his buddies than work with some "random Euro" as a third option. I think they also feel like they can use the picks to get a 4th star, but I don't understand where the salary matching comes from. Probably use the two picks on someone on a rookie deal.
I know cuz it was reported… they had internal meeting and it wasn’t unanimous so they decided to pass… for now. It was close to happening.

Please show me the last good player on a rookie deal that was traded for picks. Those trades don’t happen.

Their plan is to be opportunistic with those picks and that space. We could have provided something that works one way or another. They don’t want some “random Euro” we got Beasley… Mike… Vando… JC. Taking on salary isn’t as big an issue as you are making it… they likely can do more in FA with expiring deals than their cap space… no top tier FA is signing with them for 10M below the max.

I think you are mostly right, but if I’m them then I’m putting a huge premium on the optionality of Beasley’s deal and still balking at paying $24 million for Conley or paying him $14 million to go away.

If they take Mike out and sub Beasley in, the Lakers keep their options open while fielding a good team. That should mean more to them than closing a door to crack open another.

If Danny just dumped out Mike/Bogey/and a late 1st for their bag then I am ****ing out on him. He’s the construction worker harassing every attractive woman that walks by, and when it works once in 50 times, he thinks he’s a genius. That was the Rudy deal.

Everything else has been meh, absolute ****ing ***, or hasn’t happened cuz he’s a miser. So obsessed with squeezing every deal that he’s lost sight of the big picture: get what you can, and be ****ing garbage to have a chance at a truly generational talent.

Having both Mike and Malik might aid their pursuit of Kyrie or another FA via sign and trade. I think there were many possible ways to get a deal through.... Malik very well may have been a great route.

Either way getting a future asset while sending out 3 or so useful players while returning 0 useful players... is a big benefit to our future. Still time... but as it stands we swapped one useful player for another useful player at a greater position of need... got 0 future assets for our trouble. If we repackage KO or get a bigger return for Mike, JC, KO, Vando... then Ainge was right to wait. If not then he overplayed his hand and lost sight of the long term goal.

I just think pre-THT trade you go to them and say "look we got a lot of stuff. Give me an idea of a package you'd do for both picks and give me an idea of a deal you'd do for 1 pick and lets see if there is a workable framework."

They only have 30M in space cuz we kindly took the THT deal (if they had a different deal lined up then let them do it). If they came up with no deals for 2 picks and Beasley, Vando, Bogey, Pat Bev for Russ and THT for 1 pick (maybe its even top 3-4 protected)... its still better than what we accepted thus far. I'd mock it a bit for sure... but I'd get it... it fits in what should be our ideology for the next couple years.

I think the Lakers are probably holding out that
someone like the Blazers start off terribly and agree to trade them Lillard for the picks.

You can think that all you want, but there is no reporting or evidence that this is the case. All evidence points to the fact that the Lakers want to keep the picks and clear out salary for a top level free agent next year.

This is correct. The Lakers were offering one pick with heavy protections for three players. It's clear why Ainge said no.

I think they are hoping for something like that... and if that is the case there is still a deal we could make with Mike, Bogey, and a filler salary... plus something minor like swapping their 2023 pick for the Brooklyn/Philly pick. Since NO has swap rights we then get the worse of the NO and LA pick... so it moves you up like 4-5 spots maybe. We offload the last year of Mike's deal. If Dame becomes available they can trade Mike/Bogey/Filler plus the picks for him. Its functionally the same deal and I doubt Blazers would change how they feel about the deal. Dame will have some say on where he goes with the org.

If it simultaneously makes us 10 wins worse and lands us to premium future picks we'd be completely stupid not to do it. Vando is not the guy you think he is.
No, he’s going to be damn good and a monster next to Vic after we go 0-82. He’s going to be a superstar glue guy like a Rodman or Dray Green. We keeping his *** right here!!!

But seriously I believe in Vando, and think he will be too valuable to winning as he develops.

I don’t have delusions of grandeur. I know he won’t be a scorer or shooter or anything like that. What he is… is skilled in a lot of other area’s and has that dog in him. He’s a good passer with good instincts, plays hard, can handle the ball, long and athletic as hell. He’s young, needs to develop his thinking game which I see, just needs to be refined, no when to go for rebounds hard, when not to, help defend and all that jazz!!

Jake says JC for Jae is a thing Suns are inquiring on. Says Jae gets a buyout... I have a real hard time believing that as we could flip him for Danny Green and a couple seconds really easy. Suns won't do that deal because they need real players back. Jake is good but sometimes he doesn't connect all the dots on his intel.

Just let Vanderbilt try to expand his game and that will take away what benefit he brings.

I would try to keep him personally. I think he can get better. I dont expect him to get way better, but I like what he brings.

I like what he brings... if he's a third big type on a good team. I just don't see him as some transcendent defender... he's really good. His offense is rough. He can dribble a little but not with any real purpose. His finishing has been rough and I think his spacing issues will be more prevalent now that he's away from KAT.

I just think if you can get a pick for cashing in on him... I'd do it. He's not a guy we need to offload cuz he helps us too much. I just think he is a depreciating asset.

We don’t make deals for seconds. I wouldn’t be surprised if we went straight to buyout and balked at an additional move for seconds. If you were willing to use the roster spot, it would make more sense, too, because it’s a contract you can just leave on the payroll in the event you need it in February.

I think you are underrating what the Vic/Scoot game might have done for Ryan's willingness to sell guys off for very little return.

I think we could do a three team deal with Memphis... JC/Vando to Phoenix, Jae to Memphis, Danny Green and Shamet to Utah. In this scenario I could see Memphis sending seconds to us or Phoenix and Phoenix sending us a legit first. Saves Phoenix $7M between tax and salary. Phoenix could sub in Saric/Cam Payne instead of Shamet. I can see them wanting JC but then they really don't need one of Payne or Shamet.
