He's awesome... but its stats like this that drive me nuts. Like what if we change the qualifiers to 15 rebounds or 4 blocks? Its the same stuff they did with Donovan that made him look like prime Jordan.
Great point. Thanks for posting Robinsons stats. I agreed that these kinds of stats are weird. Locke has a million of them. He's awesome... but its stats like this that drive me nuts. You see this then you look up David Robinson's rookie year and see he was 24/12/4 in 36 minutes a night as a rookie. Walker's career high is 20 pts... Lets not do this so that people don't get it twisted.
Do you know who the only three players in league history are to average 3 assists per 36, 50% shooting, 4 steals, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists over two games that fall on new moons in December and have a last name that starts with W?He's awesome... but its stats like this that drive me nuts. My favorite stat was from like 12-14 years ago on a broadcast, Bolerjack was posting our record against teams that season whose city name and mascot name start with the same letter (we were playing the Spurs… I’m not gonna bother finding out what other teams meet that criteria).Great point. When this player shoots from 16.5 feet out on friday night cold weather games he is the best in the nba.
Nevermind, I’ll do it:My favorite stat was from like 12-14 years ago on a broadcast, Bolerjack was posting our record against teams that season whose city name and mascot name start with the same letter (we were playing the Spurs… I’m not gonna bother finding out what other teams meet that criteria).
Enes Kanter, playing defense like Kessler, is a multi-year all star. We should gladly welcome that outcome.Really exciting start to his career, I definitely think he is a piece for the future.
To temper expectations a little bit, he is at 18 pts and 17 rbs per100 right now, nearly identical to rookie Enes Kanter for the Jazz. Obviously Kessler is playing far better, he is more efficient, much better shot blocker and defender, etc (though I remember Jazz fans trying to convince ourselves that Kanter had high defensive potential), but sometimes bigmen per minute production can lead us to extrapolate a bit too much. Rookie Mitchell Robinson averaged 17 pts, 15 rbs, and almost 6 blocks per100, but injuries and lack of foul discipline kept him from really ever getting much better.
I am still fully on the Kessler hypetrain, this tempering is mostly for myself haha.
Robinson was also 3 years older, which, for centers, means a lot more. Kessler is good. Probably not Admiral good, but better than our wildest dreams when we acquired him good. He's awesome... but its stats like this that drive me nuts. I know we have been comparing kessler to rudy a lot for many reasons but another way I think they are similar is their work ethic. I always thought Rudy was a beast at working out and working hard on the court. I dont know much about Kessler but I get the feeling that he wont get complacent. I think he will continue to work hard to get better for a long long time. Doesn't seem like a lazy rest on his laurels type. Of course im mostly talking out my *** since I really have no idea what he is like in practice.Robinson was also 3 years older, which, for centers, means a lot more. Kessler is good. I have told the story numerous times before but I remember going to a jazz scrimmage right after gobert was drafted. He was insane in the scrimmage. A complete competitive lunatic. He was pissing off all of his teammates because he was playing like it was game 7 of the finals. Then the whistle would blow and he would flip the switch to off. That and the fact that he covered the whole court on defense during that scrimmage convinced me that we had something special (and I was no fan of us getting him on draft night and knew nothing about him but thought he would suck prior to seeing that scrimmage).
Im hoping and wishing Kesslers competitiveness and hard work at a Rudy Gobert level into existence.

This news looks like some kind of entertainment. I compare them to the information on the SlotEire site. It can be as interesting and funny as watching Twitter news. But I even enjoy spending time at the slot more than reading the news.
i'd like to see kessler make a shot that isn't a dunk or a layup.
except his "offensive game" is basically just a poor man's version of Rudy's "offensive game". he only scores on lay ups and dunks/put backs, and doesn't create anything for himself (again except of course on those put backs)
probably does have more touch than Rudy, but the result is pretty similar - rudy is stronger and more explosive which makes up for the lack of touch. It seems to me that he has more touch and finesse than Rudy does. Yes, he’s still limited offensively but again he’s a rookie who has plenty of time to grow. He did a spin move the other night that was super nice even though it got blocked he grabbed the offensive rebound and dunked it.

Rudy would also do a lot more with dribble drives and attempting some things. People also forget how graceful his pick n rolls could be even with his non-dunk finishes. Gobert doesnt get enough credit for some of his difficult finishing.i'd like to see kessler make a shot that isn't a dunk or a layup.

now, he is young and has plenty of room to improve, but he's not a rudy with an offensive game at this point in his career.
