2023 NBA Draft Megathread

It would definitely set us up well moving forward. We still probably would not have the mythical #1 option wing scorer, but at least we would have PG locked down and high level defenders and shooters.

Lauri might have to carry more of an offensive burden than he's capable of, but I would love to watch a competent defensive team again.

Also, while a Wallace/Walker/Hawkins draft might not be star-studded, it would be an excellent high level role player draft. All would be perfect fits for the Jazz, especially Walker/Wallace
I could live with that.

That's the crazy thing about this draft is not only are their a number of potential stars but it is also littered with high end role players. Hard to see us not being able to benefit in some way given we should have at least three picks. Generally speaking a role player is more likely to be a success so theoretically speaking if we got Wallace and Walker and they were the long term solution at PG and PF, then in the 2024/25 off season we will likely have 100m in cap space to target free agents or utilise the Donovan and Gobert assets to trade for a superstar to pair with Lauri, possibly be able to do both.

Here's Jarace Walker from today. His greatest appeal at this stage may be his big, physical presence defensively. He should be able to guard 3 - 5. He's shown ability to play-make out of the high post and on short rolls. He needs to work on his shooting from distance, but he shows enough touch on floaters and mid-range jumpers that he should eventually become a passable shooter. He's at 36% on 3s and 69% on FTs, both with limited attempts.

He's just a specimen at 6'8", 240 lbs, a 7'2" wingspan and adequate athleticism. He's explosive when he has time to gather and go off of two feet. Still just 19 y.o. He could be a cog on offense using hand-offs and screens to free guards or slipping and taking the ball strong to the rim.

The physical parallels to Millsap are obvious

I am not sure we really know yet fully what he is capable of. I think he can absorb a lot more than we think. I can see him becoming a 30 ppg scorer with his talents and efficiency, and size and athleticism to boot. He is rare combo that is for sure. A real unicorn.

I'm in on him after the youtube highlights... he joins a packed top 5. Also looks bigger than Millsap but that just might be on a college floor. The shot form looks great, but is a touch slow... not a big deal. The quotes from his coach early in the season left a good impression on me. He's the 12th member of my top 5

He can play on the perimeter and he can guard 5s. That's attractive to teams. The Jazz have been using Vanderbilt in that type of role.

Man a lot to like about Walker but his shot is super slow and I worry about his offensive impact In the NBA.

He’s in the mid-teens for me right now.

I go back and forth on Walker. I like the idea of him turning into a Millsap type and see some glimpses but I'm just not sure.
