Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

Lillard did say this back in September:

If I had to say a player right now that I would want to add to our team, I would say somebody like Mikal Bridges or OG Anunoby or Jarred Vanderbilt. Somebody like that. One of those three. I love those three guys.

They defend, they all have really good size, they can make shots. Jarred Vanderbilt does everything. He guards every position, he rebounds, he’s a playmaker, he’s tough, competitive, good feel for what’s going on out there. And I think the other two are similar. They defend really well, they make shots, they play on winning teams, they tough, they competitive – all of those things. And I feel like that’s what the winning teams are built like now.

Is there any interest on this board for Ben Simmons? I know his offense is limited and I hear about mental issues, but he can sure play defense like he showed vs Lauri. Is he worth the cost?

I think I would do a deal around Jerami Grant if they talked with him and he agreed to sign the extension... I think 4/110M-ish on a wing that fits a lot of what we need on the wing is great actually. I'd want to know he was okay being in Utah, he may have some of the same issues Don did here.

Malik - to porty or elsewhere, Vando, and the Brooklyn pick is likely as high as I'd go... and its in line with what they go him for.

Mike
JC
Grant
Lauri
Walker

Seems like a pretty decent starting lineup.

This is a really good point. I seriously doubt he would want to play in Utah.

I do think OG went from slightly underrated to slightly overrated.
Might be slightly overpriced but...

Maybe he wants to take up the mantle Don left. I’d have my concerns about his happiness long term as Utah is uhhhhh not diverse. I wonder if he’d be happy playing for a good team in a good role and getting his big payday. If he is traded I’d guess that he wanted a new contract they weren’t willing to give him. I think he’s worth it but the front office ownership situation aren’t ideal there… so owners may just see dollars and get nervous. I would bet that Dame is not with the Blazers by the end of next season.

They just don't want to pay him. Not necessarily a flaw, but they have far better players at the same position in their roster.
It’s getting something of future value and removing a guy that isn’t happy and kind of torched any leverage you might have. It also removes the Lakers as a serious Kuzma contender unless they waive Rui and his caphold (his caphold is 18M… QO is actually 7.5M). Not something they can’t deal with but adds one small layer of complication and Kuzma may have let Wiz know he will stay on at a certain price. Since it’s Washington I would bet they pay like 27M+ per year for Kyle… they have Beal the bag and all the extras… they will overpay to stay out of the bottom 10 but never all that good.

I wonder what they can get for Dame, though. He's great and all, but he's not young anymore and he's been injured a fair bit over these past couple of years. That contract will be tough when he's set to make $63M at 36.

I just think people kinda forget the injury issues he has had and his contract status. If the price is three firsts I just can’t see that being worth it for him. I think if it’s two firsts a few teams will be all over that.

If we could finesse a first for Vando and Beasley separately (doubtful) then I’d push those protected firsts in with maybe one other unprotected pick but it’s still a lot to give up for him.

The lakers would gladly put in two firsts for him… probably some swaps too. Dame will have some say in where he goes… so his value likely isn’t like what we got for Don and Rudy.

I think that all of Dame, Lavine, and Beal contracts all look really bad in a couple years. The value is fine on the front end of those deals but life comes at you fast.

Agree on OG. Apart from him being a type of player the Jazz badly need, a solid defender, OG would also fit well for us because he's only 25 years old and likely to get better. It is not out of the question that we could extend him, and it’s not like we wouldn’t get assets back if we had to trade him (he has a player option after the 2023-2024 season). These types of players are hard to find and we ain’t going nowhere without defense.

Yeah, Westbrook for Dame they would gladly give up '27, '29 and probably a swap in '28. That makes them a contender for sure if they can stay healthy.

Theoretically, if we were to give them a call... Mike and Malik, or whatever... how many picks would they demand? Is it an interesting thought at all? I'm pretty worried about that contract, tbh.

I'm not interested personally. It'd be 2-3 firsts, maybe Ochai, and likely Mike plus expiring salary. The window then becomes the next two years... unless you have another move to stack on top of it I think it would be too tough. Maybe Danny recreates his Boston title with the KG, Ray Allen acquisitions... trade for OG then Dame and just watch the titles roll in I guess.

If you can get an OG deal with the Brooklyn and one other unprotected pick I think that is kind of the sweet spot. Might depend on how they view Beasley or Sexton as well or if they are going to blow the whole thing up.

The issue for Toronto is that Memphis is a great fit but are in love with their own young guys and future picks... so they may just let the cake bake. Phoenix has the ownership stuff going on (I know the reports... that FO still has some additional red tape). NO could be a bidder but they have great wings (some could head back to NO). Knicks and some others likely out there... Dallas another team I could see jumping in. If Raps want maximum value for OG then they move him by the deadline. As an expiring he losses a bunch of value imo.

How are the Lakers going to match that salary? How is anyone else?

I don't see rhe Jazz paying full boat and shortening their window at the same time. I feel like the Knicks will wildly overpay and he makes a lot of sense there.
