Yeah we could sign some high level prospect that could grow eventually into a very nice backup pg… you think the waiver wire is brimming with talent right now?

Getting a solid backup pg on a minimum deal is quite helpful in filling out the rest of the roster. If Dunn simply captures 80% of what he was but now he has more experience and BBIQ… that’s about as high of an upside as you will find in a minimum guy this time of year.

Trouble is, we have like four backup PG's now and no starters.

Didn't say anything about starting. You can be a core piece while playing off the bench.

Also, any player you bring in from the G League on a 10 day deal is obviously a long shot to stick in the league. That applies to Dunn as well. It's no accident he's been toiling in basketball purgatory for a while. There's just no market for his brand of ball-dominant, non-shooting PG play these days.

I guess the question is, what are we trying to do? What is Dunn's purpose? He's not a future asset, and it's laughable to suggest he's some kind of a final piece to a make-the-playoffs puzzle this season.

It's just weird.

Dunn's purpose is to play basketball on a team that is weak at PG and weak at perimeter defense...
 
And Dunn has been a positive contributor to two wins now, so maybe he is the final piece to making the PO this year....

So, who are the young players that you would bring in?

If it's "someone like Dunn, but not Dunn" then that seems a bit personal...

If it's "nobody", then I'm not sure asking THT to play 42 minutes every night is good for anyone.

Ok, so we beat two teams were we played poorly because Dunn helped. Maybe we lose one or both of those without him. You're being really strange on this Dunn thing.

I don't think he's great either, but he is obvious positive contributor so far.

You have a really strange dislike of Dunn. We are talking about a minimum contract guy who is an elite defensive caliber player. On a 15 man roster there is room for a guy like that.

What exactly is the profile of JC / THT / Ochai and how does Dunn fit the same profile? Because I can't see what you're seeing.

He's not elite at anything. If he were, he'd never have fallen out of the league.

Anyway, I just have a problem with non-shooting, over-dribbling point/combo guards. Not only Dunn. It's a player type that all the best teams have excised from their rosters, and for good reason. Both Clarkson and Sexton have a similar tendency to force their way into the paint to try to score in the trees, but their saving grace is that they can also shoot from the outside and spot up if need be.

In the modern NBA, shooting rules and ball movement rules. That's it. A guy like Dunn offers neither.

Ochai is a wing and he can shoot.

As for the guard rotation, we just have too many guys now who are either unwilling or unable to play off the ball and/or space the floor. Guys are taking turns attacking off the dribble because that's where they feel the most comfortable.

It's predictable. You can't build an offense around your players' flaws.

If not counting Ochai, there are two guards. JC doesn't fit that bill either.

He's on a 10-day. He's not the future starting PG. If he's the future anything, it's a defensive specialist / spark and somewhat competent backup in case of injuries.
