Still very curious. We didn’t lose anything. We were saved by Washington. Hendricks is going to be WAY better than Bilal.
Legit curious if it changes your thoughts at all that we have confirmation the Jazz liked Bilal in the top 8 and more than Hendricks?
From Hollinger on WhitmoreTalking to sources around the league, who were granted anonymity so they could speak freely, I noticed two reasons cropping up: One, some teams red-flagged Whitmore’s medicals due to concerns about his knees. Second, his workouts and interviews left teams severely underwhelmed. “Comatose” was the description one source used.
It sounds like Bilal was 8th on our big board. That doesn’t change my feelings on him. I would like him a lot more in our system and program than elsewhere but I don’t see it in Washington. That’s a pretty bad spot for him. It seems like everyone who leaves there ends up playing better elsewhere.Still very curious.
Hey throw me in the club. I do not understand how people can say they don't matter when they close real deals ALL. THE. TIME. IT'S WHY WE DON'T HAVE MANY.I wouldnt call it a war... if the winner only ponied up a couple seconds... that's a slap fight. I am guessing it would have been like 9/16 for 7/26... Woj seemed to indicate we had investigated trading those picks and had an opportunity to do so. It could have been 9/28 to get to 7 but Indy already had to pawn off some picks in that range.
Also, this is why @infection and I harp on stock piling second round picks... that inventory is helpful in winning some minor deals.
I'm still not seeing anything definitive on Whitmore that makes me feel good about passing on him twice. From Hollinger on Whitmore
I would have taken him at 28 for sure, but I'm fine with passing on him at 16.I'm still not seeing anything definitive on Whitmore that makes me feel good about passing on him twice.
Orlando has a type. They only want pgs with shooting concerns. I don't get their night tbh. They should have flipped picks with us if they wanted to go Jett and Black. Get an extra pick in the hopper.Black is probably the biggest loser in the draft other than Cam. Went to the worst team fit he could have gone to.
I mean, the Magic will be fine, they are talented out the *** and I do really like the fit w/ Howard and think he was underrated throughout the process, but Black will have a tough time developing his game for that team IMO.Orlando has a type. I think it will work out and I doubt they are sold on Fultz, Suggs, etc. I wouldn't be surprised to see us get in on Suggs. Not sure what the deal would look like.
The rumors that his college coach was talking **** about him are maybe the most troubling things. The coach wants top recruits and bad mouthing the guy you brought in is pretty rough. Most of those guys just glow about their kids whether or not they like them.I'm still not seeing anything definitive on Whitmore that makes me feel good about passing on him twice.
I'm not sure the rumor was "talking ****", just he wasnt giving glowing reviews (like pretty much every college coach does)The rumors that his college coach was talking **** about him are maybe the most troubling things. We will see how it all turns out.
Yeah I likely exaggerated it... but same type of red flag. No reason not to gush about the kid... and if that happens on top of comatose interviews, medical issues, etc... well that's a problem.I'm not sure the rumor was "talking ****", just he wasnt giving glowing reviews (like pretty much every college coach does)
That's NBA teams saying that though. It's funny how multiple people thought that maybe the jazz should take Bilal at 28 just a month ago and now he suddenly a top 10 guy can't miss prospect lol

Thanks for the infoFrom Hollinger on Whitmore
I thought that some NBA teams would be scared off by the Thompsons and Bilal being somewhat of a mystery. I was dead wrong on that. The Thompsons seem like wonderful young men... I bet that helped any worries dissipate.
