The elephant in the room (Rudy Gobert)

Will you all admit that you were wrong in saying:

1) Rudy is a top 10 player in the NBA
2) Teams around the league value Rudy at a higher level than Donovan
3) The Timberwolves are/were title contenders with Rudy

It's okay to give me the pat on the back I deserve for having the foresight to know these things a year ago. Mainly my son @Hearsky

No. Rudy WAS top 10...ish player in the NBA. He no longer is. Good on Ainge for trading him before the value crash...

The value we got for them was comparable. I can see the case for thinking either package was better... one of those "in the eyes of the beholder" things. This was my position last year and it still is.

I don't think they were contenders. I was wrong on this one... thought they would be... at least for last season. I still think it's possible they get there... depending on what they do with Towns this off-season.

Good luck with that... try not to injure yourself...

I will admit I was wrong in regards to #1.

In regards to #2. I feel like we got more for Rudy than Donovan when the trades happened (before Lauri exploded)

3. I never thought the wolves were contenders

This dude is really trying to be a Walmart Great Value version of Elizah Huge smh… imitation is the greatest form of flattery as they say I guess.

You think we got more for Rudy? Lauri, Ochai, Sexton and picks…

Did you read the post you just quoted ("before Lauri exploded")?

Lauri was a nice player but salary matching. He was a throw-in at the time.

Gobert netted an extra pick and two extra players (which became THT and another half of a pick when they were later flipped)

But if we're playing the hindsight game, Walker is much better than Ochai.

In hindsight I think it's about equal, at the time Gobert got a bigger haul.

You will have to read my post again. Yes I thought we got more for Rudy when the trade happened. Ochai had never played, Lauri had never been any good and Sexton had just been injured.
Draft picks was what both trades were really about and Rudy got more draft compensation. (More players too iirc)

Let's have a retrospective accounting:

The DM trade yielded:
-an All-Star (near All-NBA)
-a borderline starter/microwave scoring guard
-3 picks, 1.5 swaps (only half because the Jazz only receive one of the Cavs or Wolves '26 swaps)

The Gobert trade yielded:
-an All Rookie first teamer (3rd in voting for ROY)
-an interesting, young guard that's had some big moments
-4.5 picks, half a swap

That's what I care about.

If there’s one thing I didn’t consider was the locker room situation. Rudy is both hard to get along with and also very demanding of his teammates. Jimmy Freaking Butler got ousted from MIN because he was too hard on those youngins.

Yeah, Rudy is definitely part of the problem in MIN as he was here. But I completely overlooked that the locker room voices in MIN were KAT and DLO. It was doomed.
