Uhh.. reluctantly..you are right. What Dame believes and wants probably clouds that though.

If you want to control where you go you should have negotiated a NTC. If you don't, you have to play where you are traded to. If you choose to exercise your influence to impact where you go, you should be criticized.

The NBA should look to curtail these things as much as possible. Giving big market/vacation destination locations more power by having discounted stars on trades is no bueno.

Lol… the owners wrote the damn rules. This is exactly what they asked for. They wanted players under contract so they didn’t have a Heat big three situation. They got 10 years of dame and will get some assets on the way out… I’m cool with a player deciding where he wants to be… players are people not pawns on the chess board. He gave them his best… they didn’t do much to help… they are an organization in a state of flux with a ****** owner.

We want to force people to do what we want where we want them to do it and be happy about it. Good luck.
 
This is a pretty interesting scenario. Player X signs a massive contract with his home team, the most he could possibly sign for. Player X then requests a trade, naming only one team as his preferred destination. Then his agent puts out the story that Dame will be 'disgruntled' if he ends up anywhere besides where he wants to go. It's a veiled threat that Dame won't show up and play.

David Locke is making it sound like Dame's agent is calling teams and telling them not to trade for Dame.

If Dame only wants to go to one team in the league, he can make that happen by signing with them in free agency. However, to throw a fit like this after signing a 4-year contract extension is unprofessional to say the least.

Exactly. You have players until they hit their thirties they have a ton of power if they are an all star.

How are you cool with players forcing their way to big markets and forcing their teams to take a lesser package to do so?

Dame knew what he was doing when he signed a 4-year contract extension for $250 million. Portland owns his rights and can trade him anywhere, or do nothing and decide not to trade him at all.

Dame has to honor his contract, or he's in breach. Dame has every right to choose the very team or teams he wants to play for. It's called 'free agency,' but he chose to forego that opportunity.

Then negotiate a NTC. They exist for a reason.

The thing is Dame isn't going to come out and say it so I imagine this is all posturing and he will end up preserving his brand and play wherever he gets traded to.

Only a handful of players can pull this off. You have to be an all star and deep connections with an agency. Any other type, you wouldn't hear much from them
 
Portland’s GM has to be livid Lillard duped him into giving his buddy Grant that contract.

Portland owes Lillard nothing after that.
