The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

Wemby is fine... lets see where he is in 2 years when he fills out a bit. Those guys played in different eras and were older when they came into the league. SA is tanking... they punted on their cap space this summer instead of adding talent. They are experimenting with their young players. They don't care about winning this year. They will add two lotto talents this summer and reassess. They are playing the long game.
But why are they punting worse this year than last year? You said it yourself, that "they didnt intend to be this bad".

Why are they though?

Sometimes you can’t control how bad things get. They didn’t intend for their record to be this bad but sometimes that’s how it goes. They certainly didn’t intend to be competitive. I think this is just the season of discovery. I’d compare Wemby more to KD than Duncan etc. I think he will take some time and they are trying not to box him in.

They also started the season with Poeltl who is one of those guys that helps you win. Moved him at the deadline.

Yeah I think they bookmarked this as a developmental year to ensure their prized steed gets to develop his game with no expectations except "progress".

What I dont agree with is that they did anything to really set up the team to lose this year. I think they dont care about winning and werent sure what type of players they need around Wemby and thus didnt commit cap or assets, but I bet their FO just like literally everyone else expected them to win more than last year, not less.

If you fail to plan you plan to fail. If they didn't make plans to win that is "setting themselves up for losing". Development and experimentation is how its done. I don't think they are managing minutes or intentionally throwing games or anything... but no team can control exactly how many wins/losses they get. They may have expected to have 4-5 more wins at this point but I don't think they care much at all that they are "off the pace". They are likely looking at individual players and their development and disappointed with some of that stuff.

There were some that expected Wemby to be Duncan and affect winning right away. I thought it would take him a minute. It does not shock me that they are where they are and yes part of it is by design.

SA also had a stretch last year where they lost 16 straight and went 3-24 over a slightly longer stretch. It happens. They entered the tank arena last year and have done nothing to aid in pulling themselves out. Will make Wemby, Vassell, Sochan etc. drive winning if it happens. In a year or two when they have more prospects they will use their cap space and flip the switch.

I just want to note that dray and the commissioner talked. Silver was like "hey stop kicking dicks, choking people, and punching other players" and Dray was like "imma retire".

Its still weird that they are so far behind last years tanking record after adding the gretest prospect since Lebron, who also looks the part in games.

lmao I saw some kind of quote from Draymond along the lines of Silver really caring about the players and I thought to myself whoever gets kicked in the dick next has Silver to thank for thinking of him.

I just find it hilarious he is making himself some sort of victim and really playing up how intense this all was for him. He's just a bully that is now losing a lot more than he's used to and needs to stop lashing out... instead of controlling himself he gonna take his ball home. This the same dude that knocked a teammate to the quantum realm then threw him under the bus to start the season lol.

If he continues down this path it will tarnish his legacy and will affect those media check that should be coming his way.

Morant done for the season meaning Grizzlies is out of the playoff race. It's basically us, GSW and Lakers for that last play in spot

Damn… Grizz gonna get the first pick too… tank city coming to Memphis… I guess get all the injuries out in one year isn’t a bad plan.

Ja, Zion all supposed to be game changer when they join the NBA.... just show how difficult it is to build a winning team. Let's wait trade deadline and we can have a more clear view.

The tank is dead @Thee Idiotic Minivan K

We can’t stop winning and now Memphis is in the mix for a top pick for real.
Good riddance. I never lost hope for the playoffs. We are a playoff caliber team. And that's a good thing. We still have a **** ton of picks to build this team right with
