I was sure he said he wanted us to unify. And I expected he would lead that effort. If he meant it. Of course, I did not really expect such an effort on his part. But that’s his fault, not mine.



But, I was right about his stated desire to unite, or, as he put it to his supporters upon his victory, “for awhile anyway”.

There’s a disconnect between pious sounding dreams of unity, saying the time for unity has come, and the reality of Donald Trump. I don’t know how Trump supporters deal with this striking contrast between promise and actions. 4 more years of his idea of unity.

The man who wants to unite us. No Trump supporter would dare admit how piss poor an example of unifying leadership he presents here. We got him for another term. Harmony in the body politic will continue to deteriorate as is, esp. when he always aims squarely for division. I don’t know why there exists actual apologists for this disconnect.

Pretty sure there’s a big faucet near Lake Tahoe or Mt Rainier that the gay liberal Muslim Haitians refused to turn on because of DEI. It’s a yewge faucet. A big beautiful faucet. If you’re able, please provide a direct connection between the policy described and the specific crash two nights ago. This should include a specific FAA employeee, and the role he/she played in this crash, and how their disability helped cause the crash.

If there is no evidence to support a specific DEI hire helping cause this specific crash, could you please let us know how is it that Trump “forgot” the policy he is blaming for the crash was in place while he was president. Has he explained why he did not do something while he was president, to deal with the very issue he wishes to blame for the crash?

Does he realize he’s blaming himself?

The FAA announced in April 2019 that it would launch a pilot program to help prepare people with disabilities for careers in air traffic operations.

The FAA stated that those trained under the program would receive the same "rigorous consideration" in terms of aptitude, medical, and security qualifications as those doing standard air traffic controller job applications.

The FAA continued to promote the disability program in the final months of Trump's first term in office.

The policy of actively recruiting people with "severe" disabilities has also existed for more than a decade.

The list of disabilities mentioned in the January 2024 Fox News article and read by Trump on Thursday includes "hearing, vision, missing extremities, partial paralysis, complete paralysis, epilepsy, severe intellectual disability, psychiatric disability, and dwarfism."

This exact wording has existed on the FAA website since at least February 2013, according to fact-checking website Snopes. It remained on the site throughout Trump's first term.

Trump also suggested at the press conference that the program focused on hiring air traffic controllers, despite the FAA not stating this.

On Thursday, Trump signed an executive order initiating the "Immediate Assessment of Aviation Safety" in the wake of the Reagan National Airport disaster, which includes implementing only merit-based hiring.

The order stated the Biden administration "egregiously rejected" merit-based hiring and specifically recruited individuals with "severe intellectual" disabilities in the FAA.

Trump shared the opinion that the air traffic controllers or those hired for the job must be DEI hires. He implied that they were mentally and physically incapable of reaching those standards without DEI. A reporter asked Trump for evidence he has that made him conclude that DEI was at fault for the incident. The president responded, “It just could have been.” He doesn’t cite evidence and even accused former President Joe Biden of removing necessary tests for Federal Aviation Administration applicants.
Needless to say, none of Trump’s claims here are founded.

Trump gutted the Aviation Safety Committee last week. Air traffic controllers—already understaffed—got Trump’s “buyout” this week with a 1-week ultimatum to decide.
Two days after Trump returned to the Oval Office, he got rid of the membership of the Aviation Security Advisory Committee. They were in charge of examining safety issues at airlines and airports. Additionally, Elon Musk reportedly pressured the Federal Aviation Administration Chief Mike Whitaker to resign.
The latter agreed, but the position is still vacant up to now. This move from Musk is seen as some form of vendetta against Whitaker, who steeply fined Musk’s SpaceX company due to license requirements.

January 22: Aviation Safety Advisory Committee disbanded

Regarding the plane crash trump said "if they don't have a great brain, a great power of the brain, they're not going to be very good at what they do and bad things will happen"

Tell me about it trump, I wish our president had a great power of the brain so he could be good at what he does and less bad things would happen. But alas, trumps brain is lacking in power.
