Trump Dictatorship and All Things Politics

My dad has become a closet trumper. He pretends hes reasonable but hits all the trump talking points. His wife has had conspiracy theory fever since Covid. After seeing them for Christmas I haven’t talked to them since. A lot of the **** they say is just hateful and I don’t want my daughter around it. I’ve hit a wall, I have zero tolerance for the ******** anymore.

Sorry man, my dad's a brainwashed kook too. He watches Fox News all day.

I feel lucky that my father, even tho he fell for a Ukrainian love scam (gave them over $100,000) still maintained his values from when he got beaten up by the Chicago cops during a civil rights march and thrown in jail with Dick Gregory in the 60s.

That's something to be proud of. I wonder if he's becoming a Trumper because of his wife. Do they watch Fox News?

Oh, no, my Dad was a staunch liberal until the day he died. My step-mother was, too. Step-mom died about 6 years ago, Dad 2 1/2 years ago - the Ukranian "girl" (I am 100% sure it was just a group of people responding, probably from one of the forced camps in Myanmar) was in the intervening time.

He told me one time he remembered exactly when he became anti-racist. It was when he was growing up in Detroit in the 40s, there was a bunch of racial riots and such. He was at the swimming pool, probably 6 or 7 years old, and a bunch of black teenagers came into the pool and were just ripping through the place, beating up people. He and a bunch of other kids were shielded by a black woman who shouted, "You are NOT touching these babies!" and he realized, "Oh, it's not skin color, it's just people."

Oh yeah, sorry I got yours and Enchilada's posts mixed up.

Glad to hear more and more speaking out to avoid the coming atrocities.

Someone in the comments hit the nail on the head. They said "the guys making more than $700 per hour are trying to convince those making $30 per hour that the problem are entirely with those making $7 per hour."

If your coverage of Donald Trump’s presidency is at all negative, you are breaking the law. You are doing something illegal: you are not agreeing 100% with everything Trump says. Therefore, you, as a reporter, or as an entire news organization, are breaking the law.

Trump apologists everywhere agree with Trump’s conclusion here. People and news organizations that disagree with Trump should not be allowed to have a voice in the United States. And, to think, conservative bigots support Trump’s point of view, completely oblivious to their support of dictatorship and ending freedom of speech in the United States. If you don’t speak out against what Trump says in this clip, then you support the end of freedom of speech in the United States. You support dictstorship, and you cannot squirm your way out of that fact.

Here’s a response that approves of what Trump said about CNN and MSNBC. 100% anti-American, and really, 100% non sensible, as it clearly states overwhelming negative coverage of Trump is not even journalism. Why is that? Why is overwhelming negative coverage no longer journalistic?

This tweet is a very clear example of advocacy for ending freedom of speech in the United States. As well as ending freedom of the press in the United States.

Tweets like this encourage the establishment of authoritarianism, and state control of speech. State control of thought.

How absurd that this tweet ends with “Free speech wins again!”. Really??!! Make no mistake. The people behind thoughts like this, supportive of this point of view, are fine with erasing freedom of speech, and freedom of the press in the United States. It’s not being hidden, they likely are not even aware that they are advocating for erasing our Bill of Rights.

Okay, so I hate basically all conservative ideology for only wanting to discriminate against others, but this goes beyond discrimination to just confusingly, impossibly stupid.

How do people not know that... Markets are global.

If Russia and Saudi Arabia stopped producing fossil fuels, the cost of fossil fuels to consumers in the United States would increase MASSIVELY even if the US produced enough fossil fuels to meet domestic demand.

Why? Because the market price for fossil fuels would dramatically increase in Europe, Asia, etc and so fossil fuel producers would sell fossil fuels overseas for an extremely high price.

To make US unaffected by the production of fossil fuels in Russia etc, you would have to ban the exporting of energy.

I can't believe the party of Robert Lucas and Milton Friedman has completely fallen apart in terms of being able to understand the most basic of economics.

I think self-sufficiency is largely a stupid goal, but if you wanted a self-sufficient power source unaffected by the domestic policies of other nations... I mean, this is literally solar and wind once it's installed...

How many economics courses or papers have you taken/read? Is it 0 or less than 0 somehow?

Agree with some of the points. The lack of Europe's self sufficiency is what has been helping to fund Russia's war on Ukraine. Despite Trump warning to Europe (before the war even started) not to be totally reliant on Russian energy. Whoops.......

So that begs the question–what is the war really about? It's the majority of countries in Europe acting like they care about Ukraine, but giving Russia more money in the same time span. Why would they do this? Because sky high energy inflation would mean a revolt, and yes, that means they are voted out of power come next election.
