Game Thread NBA Draft Lottery - May 12, 2025

Added to Calendar: 05-12-25

I still dont believe in conspiracies. The lottery system is just stupid.

Adopt The Wheel
I vehemently disagree on the wheel, but at least it’s transparent which is more than I can say about this shady ****ing garbage.

How dice in a back room without cameras is supposed to be reassuring, I have no ****ing clue.

They need to fix this system. I’ve proposed mine a bunch but it literally solves every problem with what we saw tonight and this season.

Obviously I wanted us to win and obviously I’m sitting on here for results, but I didn’t have nearly as much anxiety as I normally would. It’s kind of why I’m glad I’ve stepped back a large bit the past few years. We all love draft and the hopes of endless possibilities, but a bird in hand is worth so much more than a multitude in the bush but everyone felt they got burned bad enough to think our chances of winning it all are higher taking this route. Here we are. In recent threads, people have referred to our picks we got from Donovan/Rudy as “basically second rounders,” so ironically the most we may get out of all this is… our own picks. So you can tank the entire season and win the tank race and be here. It’s disappointing but really not that shocking to me. This is the reality of that path we took. We determined it’d be easier to get to a championship this way.

In reality, had we won this year, we would still need to take next year and land a high pick. That is, if we’re going to be contenders. It’s still such an uphill battle and the odds of us going g from here to contender in any soon-ish history (a decade) is so, so much smaller than our odds of having gone from where we were to championship before we blew it up. Just kind of the way it is and accepted that a few years ago, and the investment I’ve put into other avenues of my life have been much better for it.

Most grown post I’ve seen on JFC in years. I agree with every word — we had the least ethical NBA season in franchise history with a 5th pick to show in a four person draft. I think the truth is that the NBA is unpredictable and you need to turn the other way when the crowd think becomes overwhelming. What matters most is good organizational culture with constantly trying to acquire as much talent as possible. Rolling the dice on 18% odds just isn’t worth it. Teams narrowly missing the play in are now winning lotteries.

Our last contending core was built around a 13th and 27th pick we traded for, that hit their ceiling due to poor asset management. Prior to that, we traded up for a 3rd pick and signed a free agent. Prior to that, two picks in the teens.

At this point I suspect we will start shopping Lauri trades. See y’all in 12 months for lottery 2026

One think that the fans of other teams are happy about is "hard to not just point and laugh at Utah lol".

Nobody likes shameless tankers.

Utah is the easiest franchise to hate.

It's in a state no one likes.

Its two biggest stars in franchise history are a pedophile and a weirdo conspiracy theorist.

And they spent all season tanking just for this lmao

Actually, VJ is who Charlotte will pick. Jazz will get Ace or Tre.
I had Ace as my 2nd pick earlier in the season but Harper outplayed him in the 2nd half; if Ace is there at 5 I would be glad to have him on the Jazz - he reminds me of JJJ. If Tre is there I can live with him also though I prefer Ace over him.

I agree with this. Hoping and praying for lottery luck is a Fool’s errand. The stupid *** Favors trade has hamstrung this team for years now. Just go get the best players you can and look to exploit opportunities that come up.

The first step is going to be praying that #5 is “the guy” that can become a “face of the franchise” type player. While it’s easy to say that it’s unlikely, it’s not impossible either. After that, they just need to let the team play and see where it goes.
