Jackpotting Around Podcast - Episode 36: NBA Mock Draft

I mean, Paul Millsap also existed.

Millsap was never expected to be a high level NBA player and grew up in an era where PFs shooting was nice but not necessary.

CMB was a projected top 20 pick who went back to school with every NBA scout telling him "you must shoot threes at a high level to make the NBA" and he made like 10 the whole season.

And?

Plus no one told CMB he had to make 3s to make the NBA. If that was true he wouldn't be in the first round on any mock/big board, but he's a first on all of them. So the BS you are making up is wrong.

I'm sure they told him they want to see him improve those things and he did. He shot more 3s and FTs and improved on them despite having less help this year than last.

I have no idea how we can project his shooting to anywhere close to that level. To me he looks closer to Andre Roberson shooting wise than to Millsap. In fact I would consider him reaching Millsap type of shooting somewhere in his top 5 percent of outcomes.

Brother pls, he can shoot middies and FTs
He's not Roberson.

Good point on the FTs... And maybe that's a better indicator than his 3p% and attempts... But the attempts really bug me. I think it shows more than ability(or lack thereof)... It shows lack of confidence in his shot... both by himself and by his coaches.

Not being that guy... but have you watched him play? I went and did the Cashiggy videos and the attempts make sense to me. His strength is driving in kind of like Randle and his team needed that. So to me the attempts make sense as he can just dribble into his strength. Based on the combine I am not hopeful for him as a shooter.

I think it shows he played on a terrible team that needed him to do his job and not just treat the season as a 3pt shooting development season.

Haven't watched him extensively, no. I think I've seen one full game and highlights mainly. I don't think there is a world where a competent shooter shoots 1 attempt in 30 mins of play in 2025, pretty much no matter what his "role" is and what other strengths he has. I think that number is meaningful. The question is how meaningful and how far can we extrapolate from it?
