Taylor Hendricks

How do you all feel about Taylor Hendricks and his recovery? I've heard a few good things, but I remain skeptical. Is he someone Utah might consider trading to get another 1st round pick this year?

The Jazz have massively more information on Hendricks than the rest of the league, so any attempt by the Jazz to trade him would torpedo his value. Pretty much a market for lemons problem taken its most extreme. The Jazz cannot try to trade Hendricks without destroying his value so they won't trade him even if they don't think he's a great fit with the rest of the roster or anything.

With regards to Hendricks as a player, it's hard to tell. I have no idea how he looks physically right now after his surgery and recovery and how much weight he's put on. He's probably a pure PF now which is not amazing for the roster considering how many bigs we already have, but it's fine. He's tough to evaluate because he's a defensive player mostly, but he really doesn't play hard in low stakes games like summer league or the G-League and he's mostly played in low stakes games in his career. He was looking really good in the first three games of the season before he broke his leg. Has a lot of defensive upside, needs to get a lot better at dribbling and passing though to utilize his size. Was showing some passing flashes to start the season which was nice. We'll see how it goes for him.

What specifically have you been hearing and from who? I haven't seen any update since the end of the season when there were some videos of him putting up shots.

I don't think the injury will set him back in the long run, but in the short run it is a big deal. We probably aren't going to be able to take much away from this next year and then we have start thinking about extensions. The biggest thing Taylor needs is time on the court. We are probably going to be forced to make decisions with insufficient information which is not great.

The Jazz made a trade to get rid of a draft pick in this draft, I don't think they are anxious to add one. They made a big deal about not wanting to add 3 rookies last year as well. Plus we already have 2 second round picks that we might not really want.

Or the better question is, if he's to enter the draft this year, where would he go?

Is he the better prospect compared to the likes of Essengue, Fleming or CMB?

That was sort of my thinking as well. With such a lack of depth, I was wondering if Charlotte/Utah could make a 2025 #4 pick to Utah for F Taylor Hendricks and #21 in 2025 draft (and perhaps a future pick) would be compelling.

Basically:

1. If you got the honest thoughts of all NBA GMs, you would get an estimate of Hendricks having the value of a late first round pick
2. If the Jazz tried to trade Hendricks, this would signal to other NBA teams that something is going very wrong with Hendricks' development or health. Then, NBA teams would be unwilling to offer more than a mid second round pick.

I'm pretty damn low on Taylor, but absolutely no reason to trade him while his value is near zero. The only thing really going for him is I think he's built like he could be an NBA stud, but the numbers and actually watching him play NBA ball say otherwise. Just like what's being discussed in the Cody thread I have zero expectations and I don't think he'll ever be a good NBA player, but still too early to fully tell.

Sad that after (5) first round picks I'd get rid of all of them before getting rid of our 2nd rounder.

he's so so so raw, the good news is you can 'unraw' with just a lot of play time, so it's fixable as long as the effort is there. i wasn't impressed much with what i saw when he played though, so i'm kind of 'meh'.

Trades of guys where Taylor is just don't happen. I wouldn't be shopping him. If someone came with a mid to late lotto pick then you have to listen or consider. I doubt a team could get him with a late first and we don't really need to move him for that.

Let him play the year out. Hope he is healthy. Its another tank year. We should be acquiring "buy low" guys not selling them.

From what I could tell from seeing him near the end of the season he looked amazing physically. Looked like he had been spending a ton of time lifting weights. And eating.
