Improving the all time draft ideas/draft schedule (not a sign up)

Draft season is soon approaching. I’ve decided to wait till after the draft. I will do an all time jazz draft. Looking to keep the draft small with 6-8 participants.

After that I will do the all time draft. Looking to do it later. Would love to have @Saint Cy of JFC join that.

After that I’m hoping someone like @Elizah Huge or someone else will do a current draft. If not I’ll gladly run it.

I want the all time draft to be great this year so I’m opening up a discussion as to how we can improve the competition. I know over the past year people have had ideas that frankly I’d like to try but need a refresher as that was a long time ago.

Thoughts?

For the All-Time draft, place the players drafted in the 2020s in a separate era from 2010s. So each person drafting would now be required to have the first 6 picks be from 6 separate eras (1. 70s and earlier, 2. 80s, 3. 90s, 4. 00s, 5. 10s, 6. 20s. (The old system was 5 eras with 10s and 20s grouped together).

I kinda like that since 00-09 is pretty weak

Idea: Big 3 draft

How it would basically work is that you can only draft three players above a certain threshold (say, ever an all-star or higher), the rest of the players drafted are below that threshold. I think that would be a way more interesting angle than usual and the historical deep dives would be deeper.

Draft the worst All-Time Jazz team you can.

Put some kind of minutes or games played minimum so we cant just draft scrubs who played like 10 games in one season and never played again. Just draft 5 players each. Each team has to have at least one big and one guard.

Worst team wins.

In the depths of our hearts, we are all giant haters, so it will be fun to remember the worst players in Jazz history and honor them as such.

So you want to draft guys like say jazz, great Jeff Malone? Guys that have never made an All-Star game?

Does no one else love this?

Imagine arguing about the value of Jaron Collins vs Tony Bradley.

I had an idea, might be dumb, but I was thinking it might be interesting to have a young player draft. The idea would be only players under a certain age or players that were drafted after a certain draft (maybe 2022 and higher).

I think you would have to limit it to only a certain amount of participants and do it modified snake draft. I think it would be interesting to compare draft strengths. If you really wanted to get crazy you could make it like an annual thing where you keep your same team and add to it, and then there would be the element of picking young players that will improve in the future.

Haha love the creativity, but too crazy for me

Ok here was my suggestion from last year..

I think most seem to be having a rough time putting together a team this year.

Hopefully we can relax the rules a bit with my proposal for next year to bring the “fun” back into the game.

Proposed restriction: First 5 picks consisting of 3 from pre 2000 and 2 from post 2000.

Yeah I mean what’s the harm of trying something new? Again there’s restrictions there - it’s just relaxed a bit.

A few have said we should try something different - this isn’t gonna break anything - but it could make it could lead to more combinations of players and hence more fun in putting together a team.

That’s exactly the problem though, the restrictions mean you have to pass on certain players you may like cos you’ve already picked another player in that era.

That’s the reason he fell this far.

In summary:

Proposed restriction: First 5 picks consisting of 3 from pre 2000 and 2 from post 2000.

It would allow for more flexible roster & combination.

As an example, with the previous rules we could never get a team with the Malone & Stockton combination, cos they’re both drafted in the 1980’s.

With this new rules you can.

It would make it more fun imo.
