Following Potential 2025 Draftees

He's bigger and a better shooter than Cam Thomas... but that could be more of his player type. I know that seems like a diss... it is not. Cam scored 22 ppg a couple years ago and 24 per game this year (only like 30 games tho). We don't know what he looks like in a winning environment and Tre is likely a better passer. Its a concern I have too.

I get why people make the Cam Thomas comparison, but Cam also gets to the FT line really well. Tre is a better shooter....I think you likely end up getting a similar player in effect.

Also, Ainge has traditionally rated high level, blue chip HS prospects above where they get rated in the draft. Essentially prioritizing 5+ year trends through AAU / HS years over what happens when they go to college and get plugged in to a potentially tough system or with a coach that doesn't use them the same way another team / system may use them.

Tre has been near the top of his class for a long time. I think he is our guy if available. Especially if we think he can be an Alpha.

I'm ready to do a sign and trade for Cam Thomas right now lol.

I think he had to pound the ball having two classic paint bigs starting and no one else that could shoot or really any good. He said it himself in an interview he was more of a playmaker for his team than a scorer in high school. He literally had all the wrong components around him. I think he’ll be very different in the nba. He’s also a lot more athletic than given credit for and has elite ball skills. Hes not just a 1 or 2 but he’s also not a tweener. Sometimes I feel he gets a bad rap here because of JC. He’s not at all JC.
Please post his HS stats.

The smarter players in that same Cam Thomas archetype would be Jamal Murray, Herro, McCollum etc. That isn't a bad pick at #5. But I still think those outcomes represent the very good outcomes for Tre.

Is there anyone in this draft that was young, put up great numbers, looked impactful on film, but is being overlooked because of something unquantifiable like funny looking shot/doesn't look athletic?

My response would be Thomas Sorber. He put up great numbers as a Freshman, looks like an extremely impactful defender on film, and is a good passer for a center. The negatives I hear for him seem superficial.

It's obviously Derik Queen or CMB but no one has mentioned them since your posts as they're such obvious busts, lol.

Why? We have his college stats.

Your logic constantly confuses me.

You just said he was a playmaker in high school and that his college team needed something different from him. It made me curious to see what his scoring vs assists numbers were like in high school. I don't follow prospects in high school, so I really don't know if that's true or not, but I do remember listening to an Same Vecine at the start of the college year talk about Tre as a chucker, so it surprised me to hear that he was a playmaker.

If we are going off of his college stats then he has the second least assists/36 of any guard projected to go in the first round.

The Leif "Tre is like SGA" thing is so ****ing weird. SGA is one of the ten best players in NBA history at drawing fouls, Tre hates contact.

Tyler Herro is definitely the best comparison.
Its a huge stretch and doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Ironically, you could argue that Cody was the better comparison to Shai. At least they have share some relative strengths and weaknesses to their games. Tre is like complete opposite.

Yeah, Cody's completely broken midrange jumpshot actually reminded me most of... SGA coming out of college, lol.

But Cody has not managed to fix it so far!

And both were just comically thin coming out of college as well.

But SGA's handle and feel for the game and motor were just a billion times better right away.

??? You don't think it would be relevant to look up his stats and confirm?

FWIW according to Wikepedia he averaged 24pts/2.3 assists as a Sophomore, 22pts/2.7assists as a Junior and then went to the Link Academy and averaged 15.5pts/3.6ast. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tre_J...grew up in Dallas, averaged 23 points per game.

So it does appear that he was much more of a playmaker at Link Academy than at Texas, but for the majority of his life he has been more of a bucket getter.

And your point being?

Also thanks for proving my point.
