Cos Poeltl just signed for 4 years and $104m and do we really wanna pay that (or much more) for Kessler when we’re not ready to contend?why do we want to

Yeah but Kessler is far from perfect. He cant shoot.1) we have to pay someone 2) Do you not want a good player that can hopefully grow with the team as the improvement comes ? Would you rather the defence be even worse than the stinking pile of festering turds it has been the last few years ??
Chet was abysmal from 3 in the playoffs.Yeah but Kessler is far from perfect. He cant shoot.
If you look at the NBA Finals this year both Chet and Turner can shoot 3 lights out.
You’re handicapping yourself if you have a guy on the floor who cant shoot.

Yet, he can shoot a jump shot and defenses know it.Chet was abysmal from 3 in the playoffs.

Kessler can't.
We are 3 years removed from an era where we had elite floor spacing with a big man who couldn't shoot.
“Keep who’s worth the money and fits winning basketball in today’s NBA.”both of them sucked shooting 3s in the finals man So your theory is to only retain perfect players ?
it's almost as if a lob threat who can put heavy pressure on the rim bends a defense and creates space as much as an elite outside shooter ....
Wide open 3s off screens for days. The problem with Kessler is that his defender can camp in the paint.
So was Turner in the finals. But let’s not let facts get in the way here….Chet was abysmal from 3 in the playoffs.
What is a reasonable amount to pay Kessler?
I was thinking $20ish per year for the longest term possible.
25-30m per for 5 years is my guess at where it falls. What is a reasonable amount to pay Kessler?

I agree with this. The only danger to waiting is it can sometimes cause friction in the relationship between the team and player (see also Hayward, Gordon) and if you truly want him long-term it’s best to try to work out the differences early if possible. If the two sides are far apart, it might be best to wait and see what his actual market is as a RFA next year - let him actually negotiate with other teams and then extend him based off of better, more accurate information.I think if we can get it done in the 20-25 range then it gets done this off season. I think if it is in the 30+ range then they wait. I keep hearing that there is value to waiting until next off season because his cap hold is less than his extension, which gives us more flexibility next off season.
