NBA Summer League Wild Overreaction Thread

Gobert's super power. He didn't lead the league in blocks partly because teams completely changed their strategy and avoided the paint entirely while he was in the game, sometimes to hilarious effect.

Like watching clips of the 50s with Mikan, with some midget point guard dribbling around the paint.

Part of what makes Durant so hard to guard is the height of his release, that's why he always thinks he can get his shot off. Man I'm just thinking about Ewing shooting baseline...

Durant is a fantastic ballhandler. Sure he has a high release, but the main thing is that he gets to his spots.

Until Ace learns to dribble, the KD comparisons are ridiculous.

Yeah that too, Bogut was talking about how Durant hated Kerr's offence cause he was like if we want this shot just give me the ball and I'll take no need for the 15 seconds of motion before it.

He was missing all over the place. Left, right, long, short. That's a result of his shot mechanics. Those need to be retooled. If he was generally on line just missing long or short then it's just nerves or something, but he was kind of scattered. Plus watching him shot his elbow starts at different points all the time, his wrist looks like he's flinging his shot, not smoothly releasing it. Everyone is enamored that he has a high release but that's miniscule compared to his general mechanics not being great.
Nope.

Watched many of the Summer Leagues like Orlando, San Antonio, Sacramento and Las Vegas. What you have going in Salt Lake City is tremendously growing into a summer league that will eventually expand. I'm not a Las Vegas or a WinStar
Casino (World's largest casino) Oklahoma guy, because I don't support or promote gambling. You are a well built resort city with a lot of tourists; people IMO underestimate your tourists foundation. The SLC Summer League is played in a great
venue (Huntsman Center, 15,000) for hosting SLC Summer League.

Just wanted to give you an outsider's view of SLC. Go Jazz, Go Mammoth looking forward to returning to Utah's capital city.

Brice and Clayton are both plus-shooters. They can space the floor out a few feet past the 3pt line. So can Lauri. Hendricks might be able to as well. The Jazz can really space the floor if they want to.

The Jazz had Cody trying to guard Broome and Bona. It didn't work. He needs to guard on the perimeter. He's one of our best close-out defenders.

Ace elevates well on his jumper, which, combined with his high release point and high arc, makes his shot almost unblockable. He can shoot off pindowns and curls anytime the Jazz need a look.

In terms of size/length/athleticism, Ace is similar to Brandon Miller. However, Miller was almost 2 years older entering the league.

B Miller always looked a bit bigger / longer to me (not sure about that).

Ace looks twitchier / quicker off the ground.

But pretty damn close. This is prob a needless post tbh.

Yeah. Even if he had a tight handle the KD comparison would still be a stretch.

18 year old KD at Texas is still the best NBA prospect I’ve ever seen (never saw HS LeBron and wasn’t old enough to judge anyways).

KD was 26 and 11 on 50/40/80 (ish) shooting and was the conference DPOY to boot. Most unguardable player I can remember. Rise up from anywhere, back to the basket, mid post, high post, face up and break you down, pull up, catch and shoot - it didn’t matter. If he had the ball within 30 feet you were basically at his mercy. He might miss the shot but you weren’t going to “stop” him.

Top 5 scorer of all time in my book.

We're really scraping the bottom of the "tools" barrel here. A contested 2pt jumper is the worst shot in basketball, high release point or not. The fact that Ace likes to take them doesn't mean he should.

To think that having the #3 pick would have immediately changed the trajectory of this franchise... of course, the Ainges would still probably have taken Ace.
This didnt age well...

Watching KD at the SLC summer league it was obvious he was going to be a star in the league. Ace has potential and like many players if he gets there could be great. But that's not the same.

Ace's tough shot making is a reflection of 1) unique ability to make tough shots 2) the inability to get less tough shots.
interesting. i thought he got plenty of good shots yesterday. makes me wonder how much the tough shots he took at Rutgers were teammates inability to draw defenses, to get him the ball in good spots, no spacing, lack of scoring options to where he felt he had to force things, etc.

3 dunks, a high percentage fadeaway, and two good open looks at three among his makes. that makes up 6 of his 7 made shots. among his misses, were a missed dunk, a good shot over spencer that missed and an open three that he nearly airballed. that's at least 9 of his 14 (those are the only ones i'm remembering right now) that were legitimately good looks/relatively "easy" shots.
