If you hold significant stock on Collier Island I would suggest selling off some of it. Maybe dont fully dump, but the stock has fallen drastically this SL.

To be fair, "this year" hasn't started yet.
Summer league is stupid

However you want to cope about it, he has regressed against worst competition and it's not a good sign. Doesnt mean his career is over, but it's not a good sign. We've seen how much Flip has improved and the polar opposite is true for Collier.

Eh, I really think it's a mistake to react to summer league at all. Collier could very well struggle this year, like many Sophomores do, but I'm not too worried.

I was much lower on Collier than most people based on the "rookie contract ranking" thread, so that's probably one reason I'm not any lower on him after SL.

Im talking more to the people who thought he could be our eventual starter. I was kind of starting to lean that way, but the shooting is just so far away. I didnt expect massive improvement in SL, but I also didnt expect it to be this bad.

That makes sense.

I've said this before, but Sophomore slumps are mostly just different expectations.

Collier has shot 16 total free throws. Do you really think that is worth talking about as some indicator?
In two summer leagues he’s missed both FT’s several times and only remember him hitting both once or twice. I don’t know the % but it’s atrocious at the very least and he’s a 6/3 guard.

You also got gaslit. He's shot 34 FT's across both for 47%. He's been atrocious.

I'm not saying Clayton is the answer at pg either but Collier is not nearly as good currently as you are making him out to be. His lack of shooting ability is an issue and he isn't super quick either so I question his ability to break down the defense and create clean looks for guys. Teams are going to start sagging off him similar to Rubio and just daring him to shoot. Personally I would have preferred Kas who I had in my top 10 over Clayton but I do like Clayton over Collier at this point because I think he can be a Jason Terry type off the bench for us. I have Key penciled in as our starting pg.

If he’s this flawed and can’t break down defenses well yet, then I’m excited to see what he can do if he improves in this area. My guy averaged 6.3 assists in 25.9 minutes a game as a rookie despite an inability to shoot and garbage around him.

His FT% woes are vexing. Still, the rest of his game is pretty solid with his elite ability to beat defenders off the dribble and his assists . Honestly, overall, the way he’s come out this preseason and his FT slide, he looks like whatever work he did in the offseason was weight room and light cardio. All he needs is a ton of reps shooting free throws with Jeff Hornacek and he’ll be fine.

We need loses which means all developing players with flaws should get minutes.
Losses will come regardless because we are in a strong conference. We should be playing players who help other players develop.

A guy who cant shoot at all is holding everyone else back. Clayton makes players better. Collier does not.

Lol and somehow some here think it’s due to SL. As if SL affects how someone shoots foul shots, which seems weird. The only thing I see that’s even somewhat encouraging is that he is shooting mid range, jump shots on the move, which I didn’t really see him do last year but it’s still not very efficient. The gaslighting for Cody Williams through this summer league his astounding I’m sure @The Midnight is once again seeing signs of prime Paul George. So far most of everything I’ve seen from him doesn’t really translate to the NBA.

FTs should be easier in SL since there is 0 pressure and less crowd noise.

I have no dog in this fight. IDGAF and have been consistent with my take on SL. Thats its stupid and nothing should be taken away from it.
In my rookie contract ranking list I had collier second to last. Only person I had lower was Cody Williams. And neither of their positioning on my ranking had anything at all to do with how well they played in SL.

I think assisting teammates and taking less shots is good for other players development.
