Trump Dictatorship and All Things Politics

The post is gone.
Faculty who wrote to defend their president and object to a DOJ investigation of their university...are now being investigated by the DOJ.
The most banal defense of free speech and academic freedom will trigger the full wrath of the US government now.

This can’t be true

I was told that republicans were pro free speech! Did they lie? I was told that learning about slavery and not having Nazis speak on college campuses and boycotting Tucker were the greatest threats to free speech. You know, cancel culture and stuff.

Trump's tweet today:

“Jerome ‘Too Late’ Powell, a stubborn MORON, must substantially lower interest rates, NOW,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, his social network. “IF HE CONTINUES TO REFUSE, THE BOARD SHOULD ASSUME CONTROL, AND DO WHAT EVERYONE KNOWS HAS TO BE DONE!”

Then when inflation follows it will get blamed on the next president.

I thought the US military would intervene at some point to protect the democracy, im less optimistic of this happening
They are under his control. It will be a civil force if anything at all, or the states will have to mobilize their militias.

In all seriousness, how Do we correct this?

If/when Democrats return to power, should they burn valuable time and capital to punish universities and companies who bowed to Trump? There needs to be some accountability, right? Otherwise, there’s no fear what a Democratic government can do, only what a Republican government can do. Things won’t “return to normal” because they know a handful of voters from Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania can put them back in the admin’s crosshairs every 4 years.

How do you restore free speech and norms when one political party is hell bent on changing the DNA of our country from being free and open to authoritarian and closed?

Reich is correct.

And in the long term, I think this severely damages the American economy. No one can trust our economic numbers now without a third party verifying them. If you’re a foreign investor, why would you invest in the United States? Tariffs, untrustworthy numbers, and a moody president who remains unchecked by his own party, makes investment in America to be unstable.

I’m daily blown away at how dumb voters are. They threw normal stable governing for… what? And it’s not like this wasn’t predictable. Trump was corrupt, unstable, and idiotic in his first term too. People are just so bored, stupid, and lack all long term thinking. And it’s getting rather tiring as a millennial to see my fellow Americans learn nothing this century. Bush II ran our country off a cliff. Now we’re letting Trump do it… twice.

I just want normal boring government. I don’t need a teevee president or someone who I can have a beer with or someone who tweets nonstop. Again, it’s why I liked Biden. I didn’t agree with him on everything but he was boring. He did normal things. Harris likely would’ve done normal things. I just like normal leaders and normal countries. Give me a strong social safety net, universal health care, well organized public trans, and enough freedom and opportunity for me and my fellow society members to have an enjoyable life. Americans need to visit Western Europe more and see what can be done. Life isn’t perfect. But universal health care, public transportation, and politicians who focus on governing instead of Fox News hits and NRA Christmas cards is kinda awesome.
