So when you donate to a gofundme, where does that "tip" portion go? Who gets that money?

Really sorry to hear about this @LogGrad98 . This is so rough to deal with. Sending thoughts and prayers and shared this on X. Hopefully we can help out a little.

Yes it's generally better not to tip as the tip amount comes out of what would go to the cause you are supporting instead of being tacked on. So if you donate $100 then in addition to the standard fees, which are 2.9% + $0.30 per donation, any amount you tip comes out of that $100 as well. So if you tip 10% then that takes an additional $10 out of that $100, reducing what goes to the cause and increasing what goes to gofundme.

I'll get my wife's venmo for anyone who is uncomfortable donating through gofundme who still might want to.

Thank you all for your support, I can express what it means to see the generosity of strangers, or remote friends, and the communities we are part of who are willing to help out. It means a lot.

Sometimes the nba championship is the friends we made along the way.

Here is my wife's venmo. I don't use venmo so I'm not sure how it works.

I was forced to tip. There was no option to not tip.
Oh well.

Nah you aren't. You're forced a servos fee, but not a tip
I mean I was. You might not have been though. Mine clearly said tip and did not say service fee but it amounts to the same thing I guess.
This is probably another one of those arguments that simply isn't worth it.

You just didn't do something right bud. It never forces you to tip.

Nope bud. Didn't do anything wrong. I made the transaction. I saw the words on my phone and comprehended them just fine.
The fee assessed went by the name "tip" not service fee. You were not involved in this transaction and therefore have no idea what you are talking about. I was there. I experienced the transaction. It quite clearly labeled the charge as a tip and it was quite clear that there was no way to avoid that charge.
There is another poster a couple posts back that goes by the name gomretat who said the same thing happened to him.
Sardines apparently had the same experience.

Yeah, tip was not optional. I don't really care other than I wanted everything to go to Log.
