What's new

Walker Kessler out for the year

I think with this injury news I would like to see more Hendricks at the 5. He's bulked up enough to hang with most 5s, and he's looked much better near the basket this year vs on the perimeter.

I'm not sure if that is the best thing for him or us long term, but at least at can experiment.
I like where your head is at. What would your lineup look like?

I was thinking

Collier
George
Ace
Markkanen
Hendricks

Second Team

Clayton
Sensabaugh
Wiliams
Filipowski
Nurkic

Third team

Harkless
Svi
Anderson
Love
Oscar

I like the defensive Versatility with that first unit as Ace has shown some help side defensive ability. I like Collier on the ball not great but getting better. His size and pasing allow George to look to score more. With markkanen, George, hendricks and Ace all able to shoot that will open driving lanes for Callier and he wont have to be a great shooter.

I think the center rotation should depend on the team we are playing. For example I'm not sure it would be a good idea to throw Hendricks at Jokic.

Lauri won't fit within our timeframe though so shouldn't we max trade value while he's playing so well even if it isn't mind-blowing?
Absolutely Jazz should max Lauri's trade value right now.
Lauri's PPG is 30,4 and so long when it is over 25,0 Jazz should trade Lauri
and just because he's ''too good'' for ultimate hard tanking which should start asap now when Kessler is out rest of the season.

I'm read those pro Ace fans whings in Jazz social media accounts ( facebook, and x ) last days
and only reason why they whine is that ''Lauri takes Ace's shots, points, minutes'' etc so what
faster Lauri is traded for better and more competetive team that faster those pro Ace ''fans'' gets what they want.

lol

If Ace ever becomes as good as Lauri is currently, that in and of itself would be a huge win for the Jazz.

Taylor needs to learn how to defend the perimeter first and foremost. If he had Vando's energy then maybe he could have a future as an undersized stretch 5 because unlike Vando he can actually shoot.... but energy and effort are not something people generally learn... they either have it or they dont.

I see no future, alternate reality or metaverse where TH can defend NBA centers cleanly with playoff level contact rules.

If true then this is the perfect year to do it. We are thin at center and we want losses.

So you want to sabotage TH development by putting him to practice something he has no future in? I thought you were all about development.

I dont think TH can waste a season being a fish out of water if he wants a long NBA career, no pun intended.

Hendricks is way too short to play center, he just can't protect the rim well at all. He needs to learn how to play perimeter defense or he'll be out of the league.

He's already trending to being out of the league by his 5th or 6th season so the Jazz probably shouldn't sabotage him when they have the disaster center rotation of Nurkic/Love already.

You can play Hendricks a couple minutes at center just to see (offensively, he fits way better at center), but it's probably going to go really bad.

6'9.5" in shoes with a 7'0.5" wingspan and an 8'11" standing reach and a meh vert is pretty small for a center. Even with more physicality, I doubt he's altering many shots with that verticality.

Draymond could play center while smaller and less athletic, but Draymond is a top 5 defender in NBA history, lol.

You are overly dramatic for sure. He would be fine. Sabotage lol. He can play multiple positions and develop in all kinds of ways. Its ok.
Or play him more at PF or SF and dont play him at center at all. Im cool with that too.
Just play him more in general.

Hendricks averaged 21.4 minutes as a rookie, 25.0 as a sophmore, and now is averaging 16.4 this season. Me no likey.

Playing him out of position means he wont be practicing what he is supposed to be practicing. Its not like he is so good at perimeter defense that he has job security for years.

Actually he could practice whatever coach wants him to practice. He could even practice more than one thing. One practice he could practice playing as a small ball 5. Next practice he could practice playing small forward. The practice after that he could practice playing as a PF.
But again, the real issue here is that he is playing WAY less than at any point in his career so far. Get him on the court.
